Music in your studio
Posted by Cheetara on June 19, 2014 at 3:19 pmDo you have to purchase some sort of insurance or coverage to play songs in your studio? Doesn’t make sense to me.

You have to pay a music licensing fee. There are a bunch of discussions on it if you do a search. I am on my phone or I would link it. Also, on your other question, if you search insurance you will find lots of info on here too. Pole dancing is not covered by a lot of insurance companies so be sure to do your homework. A general insurance that is suitable for typical fitness studios is not suitable for pole.

I talked to some yoga studio owners and found out that they actually pay Pandora $30/year to play their licensed music. That’s it! Pretty cheap. I’ve been using Pandora in my class and have no problems 🙂

If you read the agreement on Pandora it does NOT cover studio use unless you also have a contract with DMX:
10. Can I Use Pandora For My Business?
Use of Pandora for your business requires a special license to a separate service which is provided by our partner DMX, Inc. You may only use the Pandora Service in the United States for business use if you have met all of the following conditions:
(a) You must register for a Pandora for Business account with DMX, Inc. (“DMX”) at http://www.dmx.com/pandora or such other url as may be provided from time to time, and agree to all applicable DMX terms and conditions, including without limitation, DMX’s applicable privacy policy and terms of use (the “DMX Terms”);
(b) You must maintain active accounts with Pandora and DMX, and be current on all required payments. DMX’s Pandora for business is a paid service.Your right to use the Pandora for business service may be terminated by either DMX or Pandora if you fail to comply with any applicable DMX Terms or this Agreement. In the event of a conflict between this Agreement and the DMX Terms, the DMX Terms shall control solely with respect to the use of the Pandora Service for business. ANY BUSINESS USE OF THE PANDORA SERVICES NOT SPECIFICALLY PERMITTED IN THIS SECTION IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED AND MAY RESULT IN IMMEDIATE TERMINATION OF YOUR RIGHT TO USE THE PANDORA SERVICES.

The DMX service is $25 a month and the Pandora is $5. So it is $30 per month that you would need to pay out. I think the music licensing fees are only around $100. Not sure about that pricing but as I stated, there are several threads on here that have gone into this in depth.

Oh, and it must be played through the DMX player, which is about $100.
