Hey, everyone. I have a quick question. The answer might just be that my legs don’t have enough strength in them, or something along those lines, and I’m also wondering if anyone else has this problem.

I can sit in my middle splits mildly comfortably this low. (not exessively low, but low-ish). But when I sit down and push my legs out into a straddle position I struggle to get them to 90 degrees. I know I wouldn’t get them out to the same stretch since the floor is helping me stretch them out, but I’d have thought they’d be flexible enough to go further than 90 degrees.

When I sit in straddle, I do this, then gently sit back slowly until my butt touches the floor, it helps me maintain my straddle.

Do this with bent legs (frog stretch) you can increase the stretch by pushing ur bum towards your feet keep chest on floor, do butterfly and push ur knees to the floor and lean forward.and you can do the 1st stretch with feet together. Also make sure your legs are really warm and you can lie on your back after fo scissors leg lifts. It’s a slow progress and some people want do this at all. Another thing is a real straddle stretch is with knees to ceiling and bringing belly to floor. Hope this helps 🙂 happy stretching

Thanks for the reply. I do all these stretches in my routine before doing my straddle stretch then at the end trying to go deeper in middle splits. My straddle still won’t go further than 90 degrees though even though my middle split is improving xx

I am new to pole so I can’t really speak about floor work or pole techniques. And this may just be a silly question/observation… But when you say you can’t get into straddle sit pass 90 degrees, was it the tightness in your inner thighs that’s stopping you? Or maybe you have some weakness in your hips abductor and external rotator muscles (the muscles that carries out the active movement of spreading and sustaining your legs in that position)?

mpisa. I’m not really sure. My legs just won’t open any more than that, lol. If someone sits in front of me and pushes my legs out with their feet, then they open up a lot more, I just can’t do it by myself. xxx
