Ok I have been poling for about a month now but for the life of me, I can’t get the pole sit RIGHT and It hurts like hell. Is it because I have big legs of what. Others make it look so easy. HELP!

keep practicing and don’t rely only on your skin.. you have to squeeze your inner thigh muscles!!

I’m really new to poling, too, and I found the pole sit easier with both legs straight instead of having one or both legs bent – have you tried that? I’m working at being comfortable with all the variations, but straight legs seems better for me right now. I consider my thighs to be large, and I do wonder how much difference that makes…..

I have tried straight legs too but I slide right down. It’s hard for me to cross my legs bc my thighs are big. It feels like my skin is going to rip off. Ouch

Cross at the ankles instead and make sure you’re tipping one hip down towards the floor.

Thanks for all the tips and support ladies. Guess I’ll have to keep practicing and push through the pain. I know I’ll get there one day

Instead of just squeezing, imagine trying to rotate your legs to try to get your kneecaps to touch. This is the technique you will need down the line for many other moves so it is good to learn now.

I thought I was going to die when I tried the pole sit. But now I’ve been poling for about 8-9 months, and I feel like I can pole sit for days, literally. If you keep practicing, the skin on your thighs will toughen up, and it won’t hurt at all! Like right now, I haven’t been climbing consistently and I have a HUGE ouchy bruise on the top of my foot, but I know that when it goes away, It isn’t likely to happen the next time I climb. I have big legs too! (: they’re helpful for most moves!

I felt the same way, I was taught to have it right next to the crotch, but it was unbearable pain and it felt like I was crunching bones and stuff. I put the pole slightly further down on my legs so it’s not sitting in the top crease of my legs. I have big legs, and it makes for an easier sit I think. But it does hurt.

I was taught that the straight-up sit is an illusion; what you’re doing (if its comfy) is what Veena says – dropping the hip of the underneath leg. So your pelvis is tilted. Then, create the appearance of sitting straight by dropping the opposite ribs down and sling sure shoulders are (looking) level. So you’re actually curling your pelvis and tipping your ribs. Sit cross legged – exaggeratedly cross legged on a chair and then twist your top half a bit to look level. Same technique.

And yes, yes to turn thighs in and lock inwardly with hips.

It shouldn’t hurt your fandango! It will burn inner thighs a bit but tensing the muscles under the skin reduces the ripping sliding pinching thing by about 75%. Soft relaxed skin: pinches and slides. Tense muscles support skin over them so you stick and grip.

    🙂

Thanks to you all, I can finally do it with the crossed at the ankle technique and it doesn’t pull so much at my inner thighs. I still have to hold on to the pole though but I can finally sit on it. Thanks for the tips, ladies. I’ll post pics when I get better at it.
