Calluses happen! Pole uses friction so there’s not much you can do to avoid it. Dry Hands absolutely makes the calluses worse though…it’s grip, so you’re increasing the friction. You can try using a pumice stone in them after a bath but they’ll come back. The soreness will reduce over time like all types of pole pain but I don’t think I’ve ever met a poler with no calluses on their hands!

Wiping my hands with the rubbing alcohol I clean the pole with has toughened them up. Poling has meant goodbye to soft manicured and pedicured hands and feet and hello to palms you could strike matches off but I’m secretly proud.

I have a callous on my right hand under the “nasty” finger lol It’s a hard spot all the time now. When I practice hard it hurts and builds up again. But it gets better. When it’s real hard and dry I am able to peel the top layer, eeeew! Carefully though because it can hurt. Yup a part of poling, just like all the bruises on my legs that my husband counted this morning. Some I didn’t even know I had on the sides and backs of my legs 🙂

There is a remedy: Hold hands for a while under warm water to let the skin soften. Then, use a footfile on your calluses. Much nicer after that treatment.

Try some gloves if you are spending that much time on a Pole.
