How do you relax?
Posted by Dolce Vita on July 15, 2014 at 7:21 amHi Guys,
As I am researching overall health, I realize that relaxing and letting go of stress are one of the key components of living a healthy and happy life.
Besides dancing on the pole, what do you like to do to relax?Any tips on health and beauty are always welcomed!
Thanks for going with me through this journey of becoming a more healthy me.Lina Spiralyne replied 10 years, 4 months ago 12 Members · 20 Replies -

For me being outside is a huge thing. We go camping a lot and even just weekends when we are home we try to get out either on the water, hiking or biking. In the evenings when we get home my husband and I will sit on our front porch and have a drink and talk about our day. Other times just snuggling up or playing with my dogs calms me.

Hey lady! Relaxation can come in so many forms, fir me though a vee important party to starting relaxed so I’m not always running to something to relax me is practicing bring present(mindful) as well as focusing on your breath. Those 2 simple things can help me with anxiety or just slowing down in general, thereby making Everything more enjoyable. Or if i need a bigger release meditation is how I’ve been working through deeper issues. how can you go wrong with being still and knowing that you are love .I know meditation can be a tricky thing, you have to know you may not instantly gain insight through meditation it’s more of a silent unraveling, it’s been very healthy for me, i guess it helped me realize we’re never or best self unless we give into ourselves and listen catering to our bodies everyday. Make it a item in your to do list every couple hours to check in with yourself and sees what you’re needing, are you hungry, tired? Ted x has a ton of insuring talks on ideas. That’s it. beautiful ideas and some of which have literally changed my life, Just like pole. I’ve been reading more lately, “the Celestine prophecy” is my latest find and it is just lovely. Wow. We are limitless human beings! Also a hot bath with some meditative music i hope that gives thing a few new sprouts in your journey of relaxing:)

@Chemgoddess1 I agree, being outside, with nature is a big deal. I don’t do this as much as I should, especially in the summer. I dread Georgia weather. Hot and very humid. It’s difficult for me to enjoy my time outside when I am constantly sweating and feeling light-headed by the sun.
However, I am going to try to get out there more, even if just for an hour a day. Maybe do some yard work or work on the cars with my husband.
I wish we lived near water. We do have a lake about an hour from us. I’d like to start kayaking soon. I’ve never been kayaking but I think it’ll be a fun and relaxing experience.Thank you for your insight on this, it’s going to encourage me to get outside more.@Shoog I love taking hot baths. I try not to take too many since I don’t want to use a billion gallons of water each month, but I do try to take one every once in a while. Bath always help–I light candles and usually listen to some new age music.
I haven’t done a lot of meditation, but I think doing some yoga every week could really help me. I find myself holding my breath and taking harsh breaths when I am anxious. I’ll def have to work on focusing on my breathiing and relaxing in times of the anxiety. Thank you for your insight, I really appreciate it.

I took a class at the Mayo Clinic for Fibromyalgia recently and they stressed the importance of not being stressed 🙂 Gave a relaxation CD which is almost to me like hypnosis. There are many better ones on youtube you can find and they do work. Just search for “Relaxation Video” They also recommend yoga which am considering especially as my gym has yoga classes.
Love baths also. Incense or scented candles, soft music or jazz and aaaahhhhhhh!!! Maybe I should get a hot tub…@Mila I have done kayaking for years. Love it! Boone, NC is 2 hours from here and one of my favorite kayak spots. Plenty in GA too. It is excellent for getting out and away from things. Not always relaxing though. Can build upper body strength. Before you purchase a kayak be sure to rent a couple of different ones. I own two for different classes. Checkout http://www.paddling.net/ for info.

@Webjunk,
Thank you for such helpful advice!
My husband actually already owns a two person kayak, so we would have one when we head out to the lake. I did go canoeing once and that was interesting, a little wobbly.
Yes, it’s very important not to be stressed. I find that sometimes I’ll be stressing and have no idea why. I am going to start the yoga and stretching at night/morning and we’ll see how that goes.
I love candles. I’ve never really tried incense. I’ll have to look into that and see if it’s something I’d be in to. My in-laws have a hot tub right next to their shower. So they’re always in the hot tub. They both say it really helps. If we had the money for one, we’d def get one. If it’s something you can afford, I’d say go for it. 🙂 -
Hey Milla, relaxing is something I have to find time for or I end up a hot mess! lol
I relax in different ways depending on what’s going on in my life at the moment. Something that I try to do often regardless of what’s happening in life is take hot bath! If I’m feeling overwhelmed I stretch, hoop or do some kind of physical activity that I enjoy. Meditation is very important and I WAS very good about making it a part of my day until recently. This post reminds me I need to get back at it, it can really change your whole day and attitude. I also enjoy hanging with my kids, going to the beach or for a walk with them. Sometimes I bake to relax or do an art project! Being in nature is SUPER important as far as reliving stress, I like to look out my window and see nature, just a few mins of looking out a window can boost my mood.
If you are looking for a interesting book on mediation this is one I enjoy http://www.amazon.com/Wherever-You-There-Are-ROUGH/dp/1401307787

I take a bubble bath every single night! Very relaxing, and a small tip – add some epsom salt to the bath water, will make your bubbles last longer and bubble more! Great combo for a sore body after a workout as well. And this is coming from a girl with LOTS of stress in my life right now, the two things that keep me sane, Pole and bubble baths. Well I should mention great friends as well. 🙂

Meditation! I am about to sit for twenty minutes right now!

@Veena,
thanks for the link to the book, I’ll def be checking that out.
Yep, I’m in love with taking baths too. It’s just so enjoyable. In fact, I just finished poling, so I think a hot bath is in order 🙂
I wish I lived near a beach!! I’d love to just walk along the shore and collect shells. I love nature–I just love nature MORE in fall and winter time, lol.@ntrujilloc41719,
I love bubble baths. I need to either find a way to make my own bubble bath solution or get my butt to the store and get some. Thanks for the tip, I didn’t know that epsom salt would make the bubbles last longer! That’s a great tip- because I hate when all the bubbles disappear and you’re like “wait a minute, isn’t this suppose to be a bubble bath?” haha.@newspirit36,
Thanks for your comment 🙂 I hope you enjoy your twenty minutes of meditation. 🙂 -
@Veena omg, I actually have this book!!! I bought it about a year ago and just haven’t gotten around to reading it. I hope I still have it–it could be on the bookshelf somewhere. hmm, I’ll have to look. Lol, just thought that was really funny.

Here is another wonderful book on meditation. Very short, but very thorough. Makes meditation very accessible http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/097646554X?pc_redir=1405276203&robot_redir=1
The meditation app Equanimity is also super handy. It graphically tracks your meditation patterns among other things. This is important to me because it’s so easy to get caught up in life and having a reminder to check back with is so helpful. (I also just track everything…possibly for this same reason or just out of sheer forgetfulness…it started with the couch 2 5k program)
Meditation really is so helpful and it just bleeds over into every part of life. Outside of being more relaxed after the session, if I’m meditating pretty regularly then life gets inexplicably happier which is also pretty relaxing 🙂

You do not have to go to the store for bubble bath. You can use either liquid hand soap or some shampoos.

Lucca Valentine, That app sounds cool and I’m gonna check out the link too! Sometimes I think the members on SV are so smart and helpful they’re better than Google. lol

Milla it’s an easy read, I would read a few pages and then go about my day.
