Ugh, I’m feeling so frustrated. My studio uses chrome poles, and they’ve never given me a problem until recently. It started with a few little bumps on my forearm and stomach after sessions which went away in a day or so, no big deal. In the last couple weeks, I’m getting these bumpy, blistering rashes everywhere the pole touches, my arms, back, stomach, knee pits, etc. I clean the pole with alcohol before and after. I have a history of metal allergies, even handling cheap jewelry at work gives me hives. My studio is willing to order me a different metal type, but until then I may have to stay away. 🙁
Has anyone else had this problem? They’ve never seen anyone else react the way I do. I’d also like to know if anyone knows any creams/medications I can use in the mean time so I look slightly less diseased, lol.

I have this problem also…it mostly flares up when I do pole sits/planks/anything the pole has to be between my legs for an extended period of time. This didn’t show up until about a year into poling either… I just got the titanium gold pole so hoping that doesn’t have the same reaction. I’m super sensitive to nickel too, like I have to cover the buttons in my jeans with clear nail polish and such. Unfortunately, I don’t have a solution as far as it not happening again, but for medication I just keep aloe plants around the house and break some off to rub the goo on the rash whenever it flares up. Doesn’t smell very gI’ve heard the aloe works as a grip aid too but I’ve only used it off the pole

You probably have an allergy to the nickel in the chrome. Be aware other metal finishes might also contain nickel. You could try taking an antihistamine about a half hour before. Benedryl works great but it makes some people like me very tired. Hydrocortisone creams can help somewhat after of course.

I got some airius to try beforehand, benadryl knocks me out too. Hopefully it will clear up quickly, I’m going to wait until it’s all healed before trying again.

Try some calamine (so?) Lotion if you have some to help it heal. Otherwise any type of hydrocortisone should help.

I have the same problem and hydrocortisone cream is amazing! Showering as soon as possible after pole helps too, but even with that I can’t pole two days in a row using the same body parts or it drives me crazy for 3/4 days after. Nice that your studio is willing to get another finish 🙂

Hey Ladies! Stainless Steel and Brass or alternative finishes such as Powdercoated Silicone would be best for nickel sensitivities/allergies.

    Thanks!

Just an update- taking an allergy pill beforehand really made a difference. my knee pit got a little itchy, but I didn’t get anything anywhere else on my body after an hour and a half of poling. Hopefully this will continue to work as a short term solution until I have a different metal pole. 🙂
