    Hello
    I am not really that new here as I KINDA stalked studio veena for at least 3 years on youtube, followed alot of discussions on here and now recently started commenting on a few post. I love the community. Give me enough courage to finally start pole but then I had to stop cause I lost my job.

    Anyhooo… onto my problem, over the years I have been an off and on exerciser the reason being that sometimes after I finish exercising or even in the middle of exercising I start to feel sick and weak. Sometimes I even have to vomit(…graphic…. I know….I’m SORRY) but its so discouraging. According to my doctor I am “a picture of health” and only suggestion was to eat a lite snack at least an hour before exercising. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t.

    Has anyone on here had that expirence and if so what do you do, or does anyone have suggestions.

    This has never happened to me but I know people who it has happened to. It seems to happen after you really exert yourself in a workout. It gets better as you improve in whatever you are doing. With pole though I would think the nausea/vomiting can happen for other reasons too such as being upside down for too long or spinning. Do those two things make you feel sick?

    Sometimes I feel very weak when exercising. Especially if I had lack of sleep the night before or if I am not drinking enough water. I’ve never puked before though. Maybe it’s from the spinning?

    There can be a lot of factors to this sort of issue, so… I’ll try to get some of the major ones out of the way:
    First, make sure you are not exercising too hard! If all this “fitspiration” stuff I’m seeing around is anything to go by, it seems like “work out till you puke” is the goal, and it is NOT. Work out to YOUR level, and not anything past that. If you push too hard, you’ll feel sick.
    Next, I must ask, are you vegetarian or vegan? Because this can strongly affect your intake of protein, and especially the correct kind of protein you body needs to repair muscles. Even with rest days, you may not be able to repair your muscles under these circumstances, and you’ll suffer for it. This usually manifests as chronic soreness and weakness, though, so… just a thought.
    The next thing I would ask is… are you working out too often, or doing too many other things as well? Rest days are super important, and I know that I don’t feel well when I don’t get time to repair my body. With running, rock climbing, pole dancing, and my work, it became too much for me- I had to drop some stuff to be able to stay healthy.
    Lastly, making sure to stay hydrated during a workout is very, very important… but it CAN also lead to an upset stomach if you’re drinking too much water! You should be trying to maintain a general level of hydration, and during workouts, only small amounts of water at a time, now and then. I know that, during my very long runs, I get parched, but if I drink as much as I WANT to, I’ll end up very unhappy with my belly.

    I also used to get an upset stomach when I did a lot of ab work… but it’s faded now. I think they got used to it 😉

    lack of sleep, water, or low blood sugar can make me feel sick during a workout. sometimes just pushing beyond my limits will do this. getting overheated will do this. not real sure of why it happens to me, but I’ve noticed it more when I go to pole class Saturday mornings. I’m guessing for me, I’m tired from the work week, not enough sleep, and probably not eating well the night before contribute to my Saturday morning sickness. I have actually almost thrown up recently on my Saturday morning class. it was miserable. those Saturday classes are a struggle but it’s the only time I can take that particular class. when I try to do what she teaches in that class at another time at home I am fine. you definitely want to eat before you exercise so that you will have energy to burn energy. however, you don’t want to eat too close to working out. its a fine balance. you might want to decrease the intensity of your workout and gradually build up. this might mean you decrease the intensity to a level that feels almost too easy for you. but don’t let that discourage you. next time just increase instensity a little bit. this will take a lot of patience especially if you feel like you are capable of doing much more. its a practice of discipline to decrease that intensity. you said your doctor checked you out, so that’s good.

    I know it not a lack of sleep( I have a very serious love affair with my bed…it so welcoming) however I will look into adding much more water. I never thought about the intensity of my workout cause I can usually keep up and I know my limits( i took one look at Cleo’s rocking legs and abs dvd and said OK you stay right there for a while sweetie, far less anything cross fit????…..not for awhile) and im not going all out G.I Jane, but the sick feeling has happened with beginners workouts before.

    Im not a vegetarian or vegan, I will eat most of everything put in front of me. I try to exercise 5 days a week,I try, but I work on different things each day like abs one day legs another and cardio, etc, so nothing that I think is too intense. With regards to the Low blood sugar…my doctor had said I was fine but maybe I should go back to make sure.

    I unfortunately didnt get to inverting or spinning in pole as I had only just started pole a short time before I lost my job,and it became not a priority, so thats not it and I really hope that wont be it cause I have no intensions on giving up on pole, it was fun it made me feel brave and alive because i’m usaually quite shy, but had finally took the step and enjoyed it wholeheartedly. I am working on flexibility and strength so when I do eventually get back to pole I am ready.

    I will try to increase my water and if that doesnt work then it back to the doctor I guess

    Hey! You’re Barbados I’m in Cayman. Don’t underestimate how brutal summertime humidity is for us Caribbean dwellers. Are you getting enough salt and minerals as well as water? Protein coconut water shake good for keeping up electrolyte balance….

    Thanks Tropicalpole thats the first thing I noticed about you, my fellow caribbean native 🙂

    I’ll give it a try, I had heard that coconut water was a good sports drink, so I will have to see if I can find someone’s tree to climb, as the coconut venders can be a little vicious(sp?) with their prices for even a small bottle of coconut water, you have to know who to go to and I KNOWWWWWW about the brutality of our humidity, I have tried increasing my water intake today.

    I see that you use a chrome pole, is it hard to use when outside is so hot, I would like to know if possible any pros and cons you may have with the pole in our type of climate, cause I hope to be ordering one hopfully by the middle of next year or by the end of the year, if all things go good for me, fingers crossed.

    I use to feel sick often after working out, for me it was dairy I use to eat a lot of dairy and would often workout after breakfast and I loved eating cereal and milk! Then I’d finish my workout with a protein shake that included milk. I’m not saying that’s your problem but just something else to consider. Dehydration is a big reason for feeling sick as others mentioned.

    Hey nuffstyle great to hear you have a pole in your sights! Re chrome in Caribbean climate; I train at studios with chrome so that was a reason to choose same for home, as I’ve never tried anything else (my UK pole when I lived there was stainless steel).

    Pros: tough, can handle salt island humid air without corroding and is cheaper option (though shipping added 200 bucks to a 299 pole :-0)

    Cons: must be warm to grip. Yes, it’s warm
    here and with a/c on is still 79-80f- but chrome requires ten mins of friction ie climbing spinning sliding to warm the metal. This means you get fit as you can’t just climb on and freestyle.

    Even when pole is warm I use grip aid for my hands as I sweat on this climate on my hands. It can be frustrating halfway through a dance to have to bail out of moves because no grip. As I break the pole in over time, use rubbing alcohol and a microfibre cloth daily, it gets grippier.

    I hear brass is super grippy in warm/humid but not tried it: we all have different body chemistry. I would say chrome rewards love, time and effort/body heat well and gets better with time and dedicated practice. Brass I hear can rip skin off, titanium gold get slick and dangerous in our humid climate. Powder coated I’ve heard doesn’t work well at all.

    In winter I turn a/c off. There is a fine line between grippy-humid-air- and happy- warm- lightly-sweating dancer (and sweat on body dried by ceiling fan is awesome grip) vs. wet slippy sweat and condensation on pole – slithery mess on floor.

    I would suggest trying every pole you can and if in doubt get chrome x pole: you can always buy different finish a and b poles if you hate it rather than replace whole pole.

    Re puking; if coconut water stupid expensive (pisses me off too when coconuts are everywhere!) then try an isotonic sports drink or pint of sugary cordial with a tablespoon honey and half a teaspoon sea salt or Himalayan salt and a squeeze of lime .

    Tropicalpole thanks for the info about being in my climate region and on an island. The studio I used to go to used chrome only so trying any other type was not really an option. I had always thought of getting the chrome, and I thought as much that I would have to look for at aleast $500usd to get it, then ill still have to add more money to that for when it gets out of customs here, so thanks so much cause its not something that I would have wanted to make such a mistake -an expensive mistake- on by ordering something that I still would not have been able to use. Anyway im aiming for the end of this year maybe into the new year to get it cause I had to give up classes but I am not giving up on my pole money savings and hopefully the price of the poles will stay at least at $299 usd. You’ve been a great help. Happy and safe poling, I hope to be joining the masses sometime soon.
