So I am just now getting to set up my pole. However the x joints are a bit oily. It’s almost like um the pile you’d find on mechine coal moving parts almost. It is only on the x joints not the extensions or the pole or plates. Does anyone else have a x pert xpole that has run into this? Is it normal?

Mine was too, it’s factory coating to protect during shipping. It’s protective so a little remaining is no bad thing.
I wiped the excess off with kitchen towels.

The outside chrome pole I cleaned with hot water and dish detergent, once I’d set it up (so water couldn’t get inside and avoiding the joints/holes) then I used a microfibre cloth soaked in rubbing alcohol and really cleaned it hard. It took a few weeks to get all the factory coating off. And I still clean every session with rubbing alcohol and make sure pole is warm or it’s slippy.

Awesome. So yours is chrome as well? Rubbing Alcohol doesn’t hurt the finish at all?

Rubbing alcohol will be fine. In Australia we use methylated spirits in a spray bottle as well (rubbing alcohol is ethanol here, so I’m assuming that is the same elsewhere).

Another great trick to cleaning poles is through steam. Veena has a tutorial on it using a proper steam cleaner but I’ve used an iron before and it worked great. You just work in sections steaming and then wiping clean with a microfiber cloth. It leaves it really clean and grippy.

Rubbing alcohol here in the states is isopropyl.
