  • Bow & Arrow transition to floor needed!!!

Posted by LyraPole on November 2, 2014 at 7:48 pm

I’m trying to find a quick but graceful way to get out of bow & arrow (not from a handstand but on the pole w one arm in a shoulder mount type position) to upright on the floor (preferably standing).

I IMAGINE I could hook my upper elbow and somehow make my away down but I don’t yet have the strength to so that gracefully as consistently.

Help! Any suggestions are welcomed!! 🙂 thank you in advance!

Also I won’t be wearing pole shoes >.< and will likely not be close enough to reach with my lower foot to brace myself on the floor.

Can you bow and arrow using flag grip instead and cartwheel off? I have only ever done it that way and it’s easier than the (very impressive) pic you’ve attached.

I can give it a shot? I’m coming from a cross-ankle release. not sure if I can get myself bent around enough to get a grip under my arm – that sounds like some serious back flexibility (working on it, though!). And the pic isn’t me, just a clear representation of what pose I’m in to assist those trying to help! 😛

That’s how I get in – from CAR – and my back is NOT flexible. The trick is to twist upper body out to side snd catch pole firmly in arm pit and clamp down then slide other hand with pointy trigger finger down. There are some good vids here showing CAR – flag – brass monkey hang on will find – you just skip the brass monkey bit and cartwheel off.

I’ll have to give that grip a shot and see if I can from there lower into bow and arrow. Thanks!!!! that was incredibly helpful!

Pull up slightly so your hips go back towards the pole a bit. Then unhook your top foot and aim to get your free foot as far underneath you as you can. Let go with your top hand as soon as your toe hits the ground, and use the other hand to push yourself back and onto the other foot (as if you were dismounting a handstand)
Not the neatest here, but it was the only video I could think of where I do it (1m 50)
