So I just saw Kino Macgregor has an Ashtanga session on Gaiam!!! Really enjoyed her during nov and dec yoga challenges. First time I tried Ashtanga I had to stop several times because I hadn’t developed my breath. That was my last also :/ Hopefully this time it’ll be different! Anyone practice Ashtanga? And anyone care to share their favorite style of yoga ?

I like Ashtanga yoga cuz it keeps my muscles warm and makes me feel safe to stretch. I like the strength aspect of it combined with flexibility so it makes me feel like I’m killing two birds with one stone. This is one of my personal faves. http://youtu.be/GWQi2GlH0cM

I’m interested in other forms of yoga too. I would like to try other things but I have issues keeping my mind quiet and doing things slow and focused but I would like to try meditative type yoga soon, I would like to open myself to other things (and make my mind shut up).

I would like to have different experiences to see what other forms of yoga are about. Another thing that has caught my attention lately is Tai Chi. I hear that has a meditative aspect to it. Plus they flow like water and I would like that to translate to pole 😉

Thanks for your response! I got up and thought Maybe I could start day 1 … But remembered the last season where I was dizzy. So I did what’s been my new fav , some kundalini. I like hatha or vinyasa as well. But kundalini is poweful for me. (Kundalini is referred to as your hidden energy near base of your spine) I like the releasing and inviting, I also really enjoy the chanting and chakra work. I also enjoy how warm I am after a session and am looking forward to using it as part of my warm up once my new mount shows up;) I’m at a point in my life right now where I’m accepting stillness for the first time and it’s been a full on journey. Yoga has shown me how to Just be. Instead if always Living in The past or future. This is my 3rd month being fully commutes to my yoga practice and it’s been …. A full on commitment. It’s like water. I need it everyday and some days I need more others less but always a good amount. In the past when i would do yoga I always would wonder what that “feeling” was now I know it’s energy. It use to make me uncomfortable because I only felt it during and sometimes after the practice. Now I see its something you can cultivate and become …. Quiet. Joyous, from within. Ok. Tangent!! So the tai chi interests me also, my uncle has raved about it for
years, I watched a few videos when I first signed up for Gaiam , my brain seemed a bit squirrel like to follow. Connection to breath here seems critical just like yoga. I’d love to
hear your experience if you decide to:) I think that’s what was so powerful when pole first came to me was how everything began waking up – mind body spirit. 👑🙏💃

I just started an ashtanga yoga practice this year. It’s been a long time since I’ve done yoga for long sessions or on a regular basis so I have started slow and am building up one pose at a time. I figure it will take 6 months before I have the full primary series under my belt.
I am currently doing 5 sun salutation A’s, 3-5 sun salutation B’s, and the standing sequence. More or less depending on how I feel that day. I am loving it so far. My biggest problem in the past with having a home practice was not knowing what poses to do, how long to hold them, etc. I love ashtanga because it’s all laid out. I don’t have to think about what to do next.

Ya I think that was where my struggle was a year ago was not knowing the salutations made it extremely frustrating and the whole looking up at the tv Thing. Good to know you can have your practice alone. I like to do yoga sessions on my own as well however it seems more often then not I need their direction to stay in the moment sometimes or remember why I came to the mat 😉 I’m hoping one day I can culminate a yummy flow like what you are doing DustBunny that sounds great! Is this your favorite style of yoga?

Seeing as how I just started Ashtanga recently I can’t really say if it’s my favorite style but it has elements I enjoy. Flowing movement, syncing movement with breath. Time will tell. ☺
