S.A.D.
Posted by Saphyre on November 14, 2014 at 2:37 pmLast year, I blogged about Seasonal Affective Disorder. Is anyone besides me already feeling it?

Yeah, we had a long rainy spell for a while, and I was getting pretty bad through it. Keeping up on my exercise and my journal have been really helpful, but sometimes, I just want to cry when it’s dark out!
Which is weird, because I prefer the rain. I like the sound, I like not having to deal with the glare and pain from the sun… I guess biology isn’t on my side on this one 😛
I hope yours doesn’t get too bad this year! -
I don’t think that SAD is possible in Vegas, ☀ï¸but I struggled with it when I lived in MN. It sucks, because I LOVE the Fall and snowy winters, but I fear I couldn’t deal with the lack of sun anymore. It was weird though, somehow I was more inspired to dance and create living in MN, I’m not sure why! I guess I need to be depressed to create LOL! Here in Vegas, my mood is better but I don’t feel inspired. Have you tried the lights for SAD? I also liked to bake and sew or knit during the cloudy months.

I really think this is what makes the Midwest such an angsty place to live…..there is great burlesque and music and just all sorts of creative fun stuff that I do not see here in Raleigh.
Sapphy, I know that Maria also struggles with this. What really helped me was getting a tanning package to get me through the winter (and then we bought our own tanning bed). Usually by February John and I were at each others throats and it really helped a TON. A cheap alternative to the high price lamps is to replace a few bulbs with reptile lights in the areas where you are a lot. I HATE that it gets dark so early now and I have been going to be by 9:30-10:00 lately. During the summer my typical bed time is 11-12.
Now I feel it more so when we have a few days of clouds in a row (not often). It is amazing how much the sun affects my mood.

Yes! Here in Ontario we now have snow on the ground. That was depressing when I woke up to that a couple days ago.
It usually doesn’t hit me too hard until after the new year, I’ll be to busy to think too much about it until then. Staying active helps, along with some quiet indoor hobbies like crochet or reading. It’s hard though when it’s dark by dinner time…
The last 2 winters I have ended up seeing a councillor by February just to help me get through the worst of it. -
It’s true! You would think living in Vegas we would have amazing Burlesque shows, but every one I’ve been to hasn’t matched what I’ve seen In the Midwest…. :/

It’s has been cloudy for a while and we already had our first snow. I’ll look into those lights, Chem. They sound interesting. I cannot go through another winter like last year. I’ll want to divorce myself! Going to
Increase my SSRI as well. Just for the winter.
