Spinning Teddy hold
Posted by Runemist34 on November 21, 2014 at 6:48 pmAlright ladies, get ready for pain.
I am SUPER interested in how to spin a teddy hold. I’ve seen it a few times from Eva Bembo and some of my other idols, and I just do NOT get it.
Where is the grip actually happening? My teddy holds tend to have the hold along the back, and right up against the shoulder in the arm pit.
I’m feeling like the grip on this one may be along the inside of the arm, and the side of the body. So, any pointers? Things to focus on, and ways to practice and to work up to it? Does it hurt as much as I think it does?
I’ll try to find some good example videos.

I found two fairly good examples of this spin:
Here is Eva Bembo, in her early days, doing this spin at 1:29-1:31
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdR7ScyfZDQAnd another video by someone I don’t know, doing just a very basic demonstration
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UctcJcpP-KgHope those help with identification. Also, is there a proper name for this spin? I guess a Teddy Spin?

I’m very hit and miss – depends on pole warmth, speed and spin. Have you tried from figurehead/hood ornament? I find
-1. reaching up back and high with the top arm,
2. Then and only then tucking-curling-tilting pelvis in with ABS OF STEEL and
pushing back against pole – and this is the crucial bit –
3. Bringing the thigh up to the hand and holding. Don’t bring hand down to grab leg. Bring leg up to where hand is waiting, having previously got itself in position with the arm reach UP high as you can, lock move.
4. At the grab moment where you use your hip flexors to draw your leg up to meet your waiting hand, drive back with your tail bone into the pole. It won’t actually be the tail but that’s the feeling, to keep the lock and stop you painfully sliding. -
I have to say I can get the spin aerial teddy 50-50! I have more success with the yoga teddy variation because that’s more bicep/side hold https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/545ad99d-7efc-47e4-98b5-646e0a9aa0eb
I hope a proper expert will come and answer the thread as I’d love some tips! -
Thanks TropicalPole! I really love this move, and I’d love to start practicing it, or at least know what I need to do to get it!
Hopefully someone has some other tips, but yours are super helpful! -
oh my god! are these on static pole? ouch! but I love the way it looks.
-
I love it, too! And, as far as I know, yes- static pole. I want to learn it sooo muuuch!!
-
Omg I assumed you meant on spinning pole! No way would I try spinning an aerial teddy on static!
-
Haha, the first time I saw these kinds of spins I thought they MUST be on a spinning pole… but, nope! The majority of them have been on static poles, so, that’s why I’m so curious!

It looks like a corkscrew spin – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQ_JB3tuy_w
Maybe you can try corkscrew tutorials and when your strength is good switch to no hands. I’ve been using this tutorial by aerial amy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IR2R2GmHOiw I know when she goes no hands at the end it’s more like some kind of wrist/elbow thing (which is what I’m trying to do now) but still there might be some tips in there to help you work up to your teddy spin. -
Ooh, thanks Cherished! I hadn’t actually connected it to the corkscrew spin! The first one you posted is definitely what I’m looking for.
I love Aerial Amy’s tips, and I’ll keep working on it! I know there’s a tutorial for that spin here by Veena, too.
Now, I just have to figure out how to do it without banging my boob on the pole… and changing up my hand position, when I’m ready!
Thank you! -
Oh yep that spin I would call a corkscrew, variation. If you have a strong side pole hold it will help you lift the body away so the boobs don’t get mashed. 😛 Here is another interesting variation on the Corkscrew spin, this video is OLD….2009!! https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/8ff889c2-bafd-11df-856f-001b214581be

Here is a great tutorial on that move (see no-handed variation at end of video):
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ca_aS9EzpyYThe teddy spin is the same as the “no-handed back spiral” (aka no hands corkscrew) with a V leg variation.
Leigh Ann does an amazing version of this spin at 1:50 in this video:
