Site features I’d really like…
I started poling in April and found StudioVeena in June and signed right up! Best choice I’ve made, as it has been extremely helpful and I’ve really been improving as I’ve got a great teacher with me at home (no excuses!).
Having said that, there are a few small site features I’d really like to see… Not sure if I should have sent this to Veena and/or Webby, but just thought I’d share my ideas — see if I’m the only one who feels these things are missing… Nothing critical, just small things from a user pov. And again, I really love this site! 🙂
1 – From within a specific lesson, there is no shortcut back to my list of favorite lessons. (Need to go to Lessons –> Favorites; 2 clicks vs 1 if there was a shortcut back to my favorites.)
2 – Option to “Horizontally flip” how we view a certain video. For example, Veena does Gemini on the opposite side I do. It takes me a bit of time to “flip” everything in my mind. I know she’s got a mirror in the videos, but for the beginning of moves like Gemini and Scorpio, when she starts on the floor, I find it hard to focus on the back view of her in the mirror in the video.
3 – I would like the ability to set/change the order of the videos in my list of favorites. I’ve added them at different times, but there are moves that go well together, and I would like to have them grouped together. Instead, they appear from newest added to oldest added.
4 – It would be nice to have a map of the lessons and which lessons lead to which lessons. In each of the lessons, she shows which lessons we need to have mastered to start working on the lesson, but it would be nice to see TO which lessons a certain lesson leads… So, for example, Gemini needs basic invert, side pole hold and deep lunge, but it LEADS TO Gemini/Scorpio switches and [what other moves]…? (I hope this makes sense…)
Regardless, like I’ve said, and I stand by it — Veena, this site is AMAZING and a WONDERFUL resource! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!

I agree, this website is terrific – so much excellent information organized very well!
A small thing that I would find handy is a drop-down list from the Lessons button (similar to idea #1 above). That way I could jump right to the section I’m after instead of going to the lessons page and then to the page of the section I’m after. I tend to jump between my favourite videos and the lessons quite a bit.

This is only a very tiny tiny point, but when I click on something eg a link from my email it asks me to log in, then when I log in it takes me back to the homepage rather than to the page I was trying to see. So I have to go back and find the page again myself.. Like I said, only a very tiny thing and it doesn’t take me long to get back to the page but I just thought I’d throw it out there =]

Feel like this would be really tricky web design wise…seems like it would require a lot of coding…or whatever magical think it is you web designers do 😉 but if there was a way to know when someone commented on your picture/video or responded to you in a thread, that would be awesome. If there is already a way to do this, I’m both sorry and silly o_O

polekat – Generally the problem you are referring to comes from having privacy turned on in your browser (most common on phones). Effectively all links transferred in from outside the active browser windows will not be allowed access to your cookies (method by which you track a user session).

Lucca did you maybe turn off notifications emails? You should get an email when someone comments on your video or photo.

Go to your account, (so click your username in the little gray box) then choose EDIT From there scroll all they way to the bottom and you’ll see an option to turn off notifications. Just turn them back on. 🙂

just adding my two penneth here… I’d like a search facility on the lessons, just simply somewhere I can type ‘gemini’ or ‘flag’ and it would bring up the lessons by relevance, I know many moves have more than one name, so it might take some time to tag them all. It’s just that having learnt to pole in bits and pieces sometimes things I think are advance are intermediate or vice versa, so when I am looking for a specific move it takes me ages to scroll through the lessons…

Lula, at the top of the site there is a tab that says Search if you are on a desktop computer and more if your on a mobile device. Click that tab and there is a search box. Most of the lessons are tagged with their AKAs so you can put that in and receive relevant search results.
