How long did it take for you to master the split grip hold? I know each person advances differently but, I just was wondering…. I know this hold requires a lot of strength. Any exercises or spins that helped to improve this spin?

I’ve only “mastered” one side and it took me about 9 months, but I had pretty strong grip to start with. Practicing one arm chair spins can be really helpful. One arm spins in general are helpful. I did mine on static mode, one arm spins on spin mode are still out of reach…take your time with it. And seriously…no weight on the bottom hand. It’s a weird concept, but you should basically be able to hold on with that too hand and push the pole away with your bottom hand using only your palm/no fingers. That’s how much zero weight is put on that bottom hand. I only stress it cuz as much as people told me this while I was learning I was always like “oh so you mean just not very much weight on the bottom hand!” But no. They meant no weight….so yeah long story short, took me 9 months to confidently get my strong side to where I can air walk and stuff

Also, practicing split grip spins on static mode: like carousel. The momentum of the spin makes it to where your hold body weight doesn’t have to be supported, and gives a good idea of the push/pull motion of the bottom and top hands

Thank you for the information, it was the information I needed. I think I will try some one handed spins but, I probably need to build up my bicep in my right arm in order to attempt the one hand spin. So I am going to start more pole exercise and stick to the spins I know for now. The great thing about pole dancing that I have absorbed from watching videos and talking to other is, no matter what level you are (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) you will always find yourself with a new challenging move! It is a neat hobby that gets your body in great shape!
