I was going strong on pole for two years. Then I hurt my back and had to take a break. Work and kids and school took over and it’s been three months since I’ve really had a serious pole workout. I just can’t seem to get motivated. I try to do a trick and I’ve lost some strength, gained some weight. It’s just so discouraging that I stop entirely. My fiancé was encouraging me to go back to my weekly private instructor but I feel like I’m so weak it would be a waste of money. How do you get back on track again?

    *hugs*

I think your fiancé is right. You need to just go for a lesson.. it might be discouraging at first, but it will come back quickly.

We actually had a talk about it in class yesterday, now someone wanted to wait until they got stronger to come to pole… well my instructor said “the reason you come to pole is to get stronger” (one of the reasons anyway)

But it’s an excuse I would use too.. and numerous time I have said that about attending pole camps and conventions (I’m not good enough yet) BUT it really is like the people who say they need to lose weight before they start going to the gym. It doesn’t make sense.

Try not to focus on what you’ve lost, focus on what you love about pole… and just have fun. Maybe don’t worry about nailing old tricks or even new ones… Just like try and discover a new side of pole so it feels like exploration and not regression.

    Good luck 🙂

I see you have the lessons so maybe try using the 30 day program?

I have the same problem off and on and what’s helped me is just doing some of the SV lessons. I usually start with the easy stuff instead of focusing on tricks. I feel like it helps me get my pole groove back before I start doing tricks. You could try the lessons, one of the challenges (I had great success with the ab challenge….was able to deadlift into my should mount..woot!), or take a class. Just take a deep breath and go for it!

Its a medical fact that after you lose muscle gaining it back is much easier the second time than it was the first time. It will not take you another two years to gain your old strength back. But if you give up on yourself now it will be harder and harder in the future. My advice, wear pole clothes that make you feel good about yourself, let your hair down, and focus on some easy moves/tricks. Be sure to play music that really gets you fired up. Then move on to harder stuff. Whatever you do, dont take any excuses from yourself. Keep at it!!!

Thank you all so much! This feedback is exactly what I needed. I started training again today and was happy to find that I hadn’t totally lost all my strength after all. Most beginners can’t climb and start working on slow air walks lol! Thank you all for the support. This is exactly why I love this site : )
