I’ve been poling for 9 months and I have an X-Pole Xpert so I have a spinny pole. We don’t do spinny at classes and I’ve not ever really used mine on spin before. So last night I had a spinny session with an instructor to go through the basics. JEEZ IT’S HARD!!!! You girls all make it look so damn easy but it’s a whole different ball game.

Last night we went through basics like a fireman spin, sitting rotation, pole sits, climbing, and then went on to invert and threw in a Sail in there at the end. I know I’m going to love it when I get used to it, but how the hell do you learn to progress? For example I went from a fireman into a climb and as I pushed up it span so fast I couldn’t do anything but cling on. Does anyone have any really good tips for progression please?

I too am just starting to do spinning. I have been taking workshops, one on one lessons, practicing in class at home etc. I am doing a showcase on March 7th and I decided to challenge myself and do it in spinning. (What the F was I thinking?!) I am committed now. One thing I have learned is it doesn’t take a lot to engage the spin so “push off” (for lack of better words) very gently. The closer you come into the pole the faster you will spin (as you have learned) putting a limb out or even you butt is a great subtle way to put on the brakes. moves are very slow and controlled. (Which is a challenge for me to go slow.) practice practice practice! As you go you will learn the right amount of push off with your own personal pole and not go too fast but fast enough to keep it going! Best of luck and I’m going to watch this thread for tips too! 😉

Hi guys! At the end of each Spin lesson you will find the spinning pole break down. Also I have uploaded several spinning pole Quick lessons that I think you will find helpful. Be sure to watch this lesson too so you understand the machines of spin (if you haven’t already seen it) https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4f7311e1-1410-4981-8097-7a4a0ac37250

I’ve only started spinning mode a while ago. I’m really liking it. I think, at least for me, that doing small sessions on spin mode helps me out. The first day, I thought I would be sick, and I only did three rotations. Now I can do about 5 mins worth (all together). The first time I also thought it was scary. But now that I got over that fear, a whole new world of dance has opened up for me. I think that your body just needs time to get used to spinning around, and each time you get less motion sickness. Also, when I do a climb and pull up into it too quickly the pole does spin too fast. So I usually just hold on and stick out a leg or arm which helps right away. I try to focus on ‘getting into the move’ with strength and control rather than momentum or pushing off. This helps me to significantly control the speed of the spin. I have also been trying out moves that I am really comfortable on static with first, before trying it out on spin mode. And some moves can only be done on static, while others may only be done on spin. I am so used to spinning my self on static, so I’m really focusing my learning on how to do holds. Spin mode is so fun, and I’m enjoying my journey. I think that Veena’s lessons are really great because she explains how to do both modes (static and spin) and she gives proper advice as to how each are different. I think that this is another area in pole fitness that develops different muscles that you may not be used to as well. Similar to other factors of pole, I also think that you do need to be patient. 😀

Here’s the quick lesson link…Read the descriptions and the titles for info. Everything is grouped together so all spinning pole is together, it’s also in order according do level of difficulty (for the most part) https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4f7311e1-1410-4981-8097-7a4a0ac37250

Thank you guys, and thanks for the links Veena. I know it’s a learning curve but it’s good to have good form and learn from people who have experience 🙂
