Hey everyone I am on the hunt for the best silks to use for pole silks. I have an x stage light with the x pole silkii attachment on its way. Im looking for hot pink low stretch tricot silk and I’m not sure if I need 7 or 8 yards x stage lite is just about 10 feet. Recommendations and input would be greatly appreciated! Also where to orDer from in the usa 🙂 thanks!!!

Fabric.com has tricot for the best price. I ordered for a hammock but I am sure they have narrower than 108 available.

I buy my silks from Fabric.com. I just trim about 12″ off the width. It isn’t really necessary though unless your hands are really small.

Hi Rockstar you can buy genuine Polesilks poleamor.com in the USA. We tried all the ones from fabric places and found them to be very hard on your skin. Sue

polesilks, if you are going to post regarding your product please try and refrain from making blatantly false assertions regarding other products its not only unprofessional its illegal in the UK (where I believe you are located).

More accurately you could have said, “We specially sourced our fabric to be less abrasive on to your skin than some fabrics are”

In this way you are not lying by asserting that you could have tried all possible fabrics available (you didn’t) and also you eliminate the lie that all fabrics are abrasive to your skin (they aren’t)

You don’t build a successful business by tearing others down.

Thank you webmaster for summing this up so well. Our silks where indepently tested for safety as well as the main polesilks unit and their certificates are available on our website also allowing us world wide product liability and able to offer 3yrs or 300 hours guarantee.
Each to their own just like the different grips avaliable

@chemgoddess and @jivete – I never bought silks from a fabric stores but I would love too since I really want to get purple. Can you please help me understand? For Silks, I should get tricot 108″ fabric? If I wanted to get 12″ or 14″ in length how much yards should I get?

Yes, get the 40 denier tricot nylon. I’ve only ever seen it in 108″-110″ widths. As far as length, always go longer, so at minimum get enough fabric for 14ft. I have multiple silks for shorter lengths I never use any more and wish I’d gotten length for my full rig height, which is 20-ish feet.

For length, take your ceiling height and multiply by 2 and then divide by 3 for yards. Add another yard or two. So for 14ft, it would be 14*2=28/3=9.33 yards. Then depending on whether your fabric is for hammock or silks (It wouldn’t matter to me, I’d add the same either way), add another yard or so. At min, I would buy 10.5 yards. Probably more like 11 yards.

As far as the fear of buying fabric from a fabric store, I cannot fathom the difference. Assuming you are getting 40 denier tricot nylon. I don’t care if someone has had their fabric tested for strength, you would have to batch test every bolt of fabric to be able to claim strength, the same way every batch of concrete is tested.

I do full aerial with drops and am perfectly comfortable with Fabric.com fabric. I am more concerned with the climbing rigging because it is not meant to be “fallen” on continuously. Because Fabric tears, when it fails, it doesn’t fail catastrophically. Steel deforms and aluminum snaps. Even though the aluminum is rated way higher than the fabric is for strength, it’s the piece that make me the most nervous.

However, if you aren’t doing drops, my concern would be pretty low to non-existent.

Sorry I meant 14″ in length of the silks. My ceilings are 8.5 ft
8.5*2=17/3=5.6 so 8yards to be safe, correct?
I will not be doing drops. This will be used with my pole.
Thank you @Jivete!! This was the best explanation of buying silks. Wow!!

Yeah, with the extra yardage you get more pooling on the ground. TBH, I have no idea how this affects pole silks. My guess is with pole silks, you need that extra yardage in order to have enough “tail”. 8 yards would give you about a yard of “pool” with each fabric.

I suppose I should watch a pole silk video since I’ve never really seen it. I have no idea what people do, lol.

LOL cool! I’m going to try! Thanks a lot!!
Here is a video of me performing with pole silks to give you an idea.
The height I have there is 9.5 ft. although I can go higher but wanted the audience to be able to see everything. 😉 Posting another event video soon.

Lots of spinning and wrapping. But everything seems to be done at an angle or with hand wraps or in a slip-knot. I see some that just brush the floor, but that’s with poles that are much taller. So I’d still go longer and if the excess tail ends up getting in the way, you can always trim it off. Better too long than too short.

@Jivete can I bother you with one more question? Can you wash these in a washing machine? On the site is says hand wash. Just wonder how you keep them clean.

I wash mine in a washing machine. In fact, when I get a new set I wash them twice since they tend to be slick.

Thank you everyone for the advice and input! I ordered 21ft tricot with shine it’s 108 wide and stretches width wise. I believe this is exactly what I was looking for. I got an email from someone who saw my post referring me to aerialfabric.Com that is where I placed my order from and it arrived in 2 days. My stage and silkii attachment will be here thursday 🙂 I’ll post pics and video as soon as I can. I am so stoked to learn pole silks and take my poling to a new level.
