Hi, I’m new here πŸ™‚ I’ve been pole dancing for about 1 1/2 years, though I’ve only had a bit of formal instruction. I came into the sport not knowing much about fitness and with no upper body strength to speak of =P

I wanted to get some advice on how to take care of myself when I can’t give myself rest days between pole days. I dance at a showclub four nights a week, and I lean heavily on my pole skills on stage. I do a ton of inverts (ground and aerial) and at least one Jade almost every time I’m on stage, and I also work on some new things, which lately has been the caterpillar climb, drops (mainly in a Jade split), and the shoulder mount. Right now I have three work nights right in a row, since those seem to be the best-paying days overall. However, I’m a bit worried about what that could do to my body since every piece of advice I’ve seen says to space out your pole workouts whenever possible, which I don’t think I can do right now.

Any advice on avoiding injury/overworked muscles and staying safe?

There is a lot of info in the lessons on this. Taking notes from the 30 day take off and watching all of the Getting Started lesson will give you great tips for structure. If you haven’t checked them out use this code and get 3 days access free. GET3FREE 😊 You may also want to try using the search box to find more threads on this subject.

That sounds like a lot of work!
Only obvious stuff to say, but make sure you pamper your body in every way you can if you are asking it to work a lot for you… try and sleep at least a full 8 hours on those days, eat well, warm up as thoroughly as possible.
    Kudos for your hard work!

Can you add in stuff to your stage show that’s less upper-body intensive? Leg hangs for example are dramatic but can be quite relaxing to just hang out in. Hip holds also give you a chance to be dramatic looking but take a breather while you do cool things with your arms and legs. Spin mode is your friend if your stage pole spins…

@Veena Thank you so much, I will definitely be checking that out soon! And thanks, I’m glad you like it πŸ™‚

@Iani Ancilla Thank you πŸ™‚ I definitely try to eat and sleep really well (maybe just a bit too much chocolate *hides* ). I have a pre- and post-work stretching routine, pre-work is pretty soon before my first stage set of the night and takes ~10 minutes. I should probably add some warm-up before that, since I’ve read multiple people on here saying that it’s best to stretch after your muscles are a bit warmed up.

@TropicalVertical I wish my club had spinning poles! I actually overheard the topic come up between a manager and a few dancers a few nights ago, apparently the ceiling over the stage they were talking about stage wouldn’t be stable enough to hold a spinning pole or something =/ I have a few hip holds and leg hangs I use in my stage show, but I’ve found a few others that I’m definitely going to use more. I got a decent Scorpio and pike hip hold the other night πŸ™‚

P.S. I love your street pole videos!
