Hello, my name is Dori and I’m a beginner. I have been taking weekly lessons at a studio for 6 months and just recently got an Xsport Pole (Chrome, 45mm). I’m really enjoying practicing at home and working on conditioning with Veena’s routines. However, even after 6 months, I’m having major problems executing my pole sits.

I believe that I understand the technique well and have practiced the sit countless times at this point, but I can’t maintain my grip with my upper inner thighs, which makes attempting wrist seats, planks, etc. nearly impossible. It seems that I just sweat too much. As soon as I pull up into my sit, I slide down almost immediately, despite having (I believe) proper positioning with legs crossed and hips tilted toward one side/down to lock in. I thought it was because I sweat a good deal, but even after rubbing a bit of alcohol solution on my legs, I still slide down as soon as I’m up.

For some context, I do have a larger frame, at 5’7″, 224lbs with a very large chest (working on losing weight and a breast reduction) I’m not sure if those things may be contributing to my difficulty as well.

Do you have a suggestion on how I might maintain my POCs in the pole sit?? Any strengthening or conditioning exercises I can do to improve my grip?

I appreciate your time! Thank you!

    HI Dori,
I really understand your frustration… I’m also a bit heavy (albeit much shorter than you) and sweat like a hog. I have REALLY sweaty hands, feet, body, EVERYTHING. And to top matters off, I live in a hot, humid country where summers are long…

I discovered Dirty Girl Poltice a few months ago and it has really changed my pole work outs. I put it on my hands, armpits, back of knees, legs, between thighs, everywhere… before every work out and it has made me so much more productive during class and at home. I don’t use any additional grip aids, as I find that if I do even begin to sweat, they turn to a gooey paste that just makes me more slippery.

Other than that, I have a fan I use at home near my pole to help me keep dry. I’ve also got a fan at the studio which I put next to “my” pole. It really helps in humid climates and was worth the investment.

(I have no affiliation with DGP. I get nothing from this review. DGP is not readily available where I live and international shipping costs are a b. I still think its worth its weight in gold.)

Happy poling and I hope this helps….

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your reply and definitely will look into both the Dew and Dirty Girl Poultice. I think that could be just the trick to step my game up! 🙂

Dew point doesnt make your skin more slippery Lilglo? I thought was for dry skin that doesnt stick because it is too dry and it slides? on me, it is like a moisturizer. I could never use it if I was sweaty, which I am usually. I find that Dirty Girl Poultice works well on body parts but not so much for my hands. I’ve used it on my shoulders, knee pits, and feet and it worked well for that. I think it might work well for sweaty thighs too. and if that isnt enough, use dry hands.

If I let it dry long enough it works amazing if I don’t I slide right off lol ! Tite grip is really good for when my hands are really sweaty also pole mama’s pole body grip is amazing !! It’s like itac but doesn’t rip the skin off and cleans right off the pole unlike itac!!!

that’s interesting, it just makes my skin more sweaty :(. I have used it in the winter when my skin was very very very dry and it helped then. I cant use itac either. makes me slide. I’m glad you mentioned pole mama’s body grip, I was wondering how that one was.

Hmm! I have tried Tite Grip on my hands at the studio with mixed results. I’m headed there this morning and will try some products there, though I can’t remember which ones they have off of the top of my head. I worked out yesterday with similar problems…I tried to focus on really squeezing with my thighs, maybe a slight improvement there.

if you use tite grip, just be sure to use it atleast 30 minutes before poling/sweating. if I put it on a workout right away it doesnt work for me. its a weird product, you have to use before you start sweating and it takes a while to activate. I actually use it an hour before poling then 30 minutes before poling and that works really well.
