  • Massive pain in bicep that won’t go away! Help :(

Posted by yawningcat on July 7, 2015 at 9:57 pm

Does anyone else ever experienced this? It started when I particed shoulder mount intensively. My bicep hurts so much that even curling my arms would hurt. I thought it would go away with time, as usual. It did, but just when I started doing shoulder mount again, it hurts badly, again. One time I was pushing it until I cannot lift my arm and I laid on the floor curling holding the pain. It has been over 1 month and the pain occurs everytime I’m doing shoulder mount. Does anyone ever experienced this and will the pain go away? Or did I do something wrong with my hands position? Thanks for the help!

I haven’t had that happen, but it sounds like you may have a muscle tear maybe .

I’ve not had that happen but it does sound like you need to take a break. My general rule for working on moves is to attempt it 10 times or less and after that move on to something else. Be sure to work both sides switching your grip even if you can’t fully do the shoulder mount. Just don’t shoulder slides with the opposite side is helpful in balancing things out.

    Hey there!
So, I have bicep tendinitis- I’m pretty sure lifting my school bag for university many times a day aggravated it. I know the pain you’re talking about!
It REALLY sounds like you need to rest that arm, get some ice on it, and perhaps see a doctor.
If you overwork the muscles, you run the risk of damaging or tearing something. For me, it tends to be tendons, but for others I’ve heard of major muscle tears and even worse.
The pain you’re talking about after shoulder-mounting so many times is a huge warning sign to STOP and to rest! Your body has limits and is not a machine! Pushing too hard, too often, or very repeatedly can seriously damage you.
My suggestion would be rest (as in, no more shoulder mounts, and very, very little use of that bicep at all for some time, weeks at least), put some ice on it each night where the pain is, and possibly see a doctor to make sure there isn’t more permanent or difficult-to-treat injury.

Ice is fine for the acute onset for swelling, but after the acute stage heat should be applied. The area at the shoulders where allot of the tendons meet( including the bicep tendon)need heat to allow for better blood flow for healing/recovery. When I worked for a sports medicine physician (he treated several athletes in our area), this was the most effective method, and using a light resistance band along with pendulum exercises (movements that don’t require lifting your arm high) to help strengthen and stretch out the tendons/muscles. I know it works, he treated me after going to physical therapy and still having pain for over a year. With his help I was good as new within less than 2 months. Good Luck, and heal fast!! 🙂

Thank you so much for you helps guys! Knowing that this pain is curable relieves me. I will take more rests (as-looking back-I’ve been training everyday and what I call ‘resting’ is when I do some stretching and poling freestyle for at least 30 minutes).

I will try both ice and heat and see which one is better for my pain.
