  • HELP!! Outdoor poling in humid climates

So I was totally stoked to get my new Xstage Lite this summer with the excitement of being able to pole outside. I live in Virginia, which is pretty humid. With normally dry skin (thank goodness for Itac and Pole!! lol), I thought poling outside in the humidity would be awesome for me! However, my last couple sessions I found that the humidity created a moisture film all over my pole where I couldn’t stick for NOTHING!!! Here on my beach vacation, day 1, I found the same problem. I decided to put Itac all over my pole and on all my contact points (I normally only tack my hands) and it seemed to help. Well, doing my bridge/crescent, I all of a sudden slid down out of nowhere on a slick spot and plummeted on my head, causing my back to arch severely, and terrified the crap out of my husband who was sure I was paralyzed or dead. sooooooo….how in the world do I battle pole dancing outside in excess humidity? Any advice?!?!?

Oh no! I hope you’re doing ok!!! I find that itac gets so greasy in heat, it’s not good at all in warm conditions. It’s best used for cold poles and dry skin, even then as you warm it can become slick. Dry hands, dirty girl and might grip are better options for warm humid conditions. You want grip aids that dry not add tack! Dew point is also not the best option for humid and warm conditions.

Personally I find my stage pole almost unusable for the majority of the summer. Honestly it’s just too hot outside (I’m in NJ) to do anything active outside unless you start really early or really late. I hate even taking garbage out in the hear, so I’m certain not lugging my stage out in the blazing sun.

Not to mention the base gets HOT!

For me I the stage is mostly for fall and spring. There were 2 days this summer I took my stage to a park where there was plenty of shade and it worked out ok.

I actually love the grip on stainless steel, so I don’t use too much grip aid… maybe just some dry hands on my hands. I also keep a beach towel handy to wipe my body down if my stomach starts to perspire, and plenty of alcohol to clean the pole often with.

Mostly I treat outside poling as a novelty. Like its a fun thing to do but I’m not going to get any serious poling done. :/ It makes for some good quick photos, but long combos probably won’t happen.

I am doing as well as I can be. My back is pretty screwed up. It has made my vacation a very uncomfortable and painful one 😔 I am lucky that we vacation with a doctor and physical therapist, so I have been getting amazing medical treatment since right after I fell.

I always worshipped Itac and didn’t realize it wouldnt help me in this condition. Thanks for the tip @veena ! Where is the grip aid video?

Hope you’re having a quick recovery! I am looking to move to Virginia and was happy you mentioned the climate there…I’m currently in Michigan and it gets really humid during mid to late summer…and was curious about Virginia…so thanks for sharing. I wish you the best and hope you heal fast!

I am in VA too. I don’t have any help to offer you (sadly) except to mix dry hands with itac on your palm, and then rub the mixture all over your body contact points and make sure your pole is super clean. That looks SOOOO fun though! Do people look at you weird though when they see you pole outside? Thats the only thing I would be worried about.

I have an xstage and i have a pink silicone pole. I never had any problems poleing and I live in Miami beach where the humidity is 100% and the temperature last week was at 100 degrees F. The silicone is tough on the skin but if you use yoga pants and a shirt it’s heavenly. Moreover I bought a stainless steel pole and I’ve used it only once since the humidity in the air rendered it useless. I would say to buy or exchange your pole which you can do.

As of now I’m traveling the States with my xstage. I’m in DC right now and yesterday I put it in a park near the Reagan airport. You can follow my journey on ig at eraweb21_pole and you can contact me if you want to connect in your city to do pole outdoors
