Up until this May, I was very into pole, taking classes at my local studio and practicing on my own at home. My studio doesn’t offer classes over the summer, plus I started teaching yoga and was very busy with that, so I completely fell out of practice and haven’t done a thing since May! I also realized that the way my pole studio taught was… wrong. We never learned both sides and learned tricks/spins in a strange order. I want to go back and teach myself the RIGHT way to avoid injury and improve strength on BOTH sides. Has anyone had to re-teach themselves from scratch, if so what would you recommend? My plan right now is to go through all the Veena lessons, from the beginning, on both sides. I LOVE pole and I really want to get back into it in a way that will help me fall in love with dancing again and avoid injury! Any tips are recommended!

I would suggest paying for veena’s lessons, you could also play at a park or a place that has low bars, etc. Calisthenics is a good exercise program.

The 30 day take off program is a great way to get back into pole, it takes you step by step and day by day telling you what to work on for 30 days. 🙂

Be patient and go slow. I loved the 30 day take off. I wear a turtle charm on a bracelet to remind myself that slow and steady wins the race! Also, lifting weights is good. I noticed after too late my triceps weren’t getting much action and of course your legs don’t always work as much as the upper body. Helps to weight lift to get muscle groups neglected by pole, to keep you balanced, and to strengthen smaller muscles you need to avoid injury. good luck!

Thanks! I am planning on paying for the lessons, I used to have them before I stopped poling in May 🙁 I also think I am a lot stronger now than I was before because I do a lot of yoga, barre and BUTI yoga, Hopefully my strength is more even on both sides now and that will make it a little easier to learn both sides for pole. I know I will get frustrated on my non-dominant side and impatient on my dominant side but I will just have to remember to be patient and go slow!
