Six weeks ago I dislocated my shoulder, and this coming Monday I start physical therapy. I’m nervous that this injury I may not come back from for awhile. I’m not even sure how it happened. I have been feeling very depressed. Then, last Friday a childhood friend of mine was murdered. We grew apart in adulthood, but we were friends in grade school. I can’t imagine her fear at the end, it’s overwhelmingly sad, and I can’t imagine what her closest friends and family are going through. I also started a new job that is particularly stressful. My dad is slowly declining in health, he has MS, diabetes, and heart failure issues. And, my youngest brother is an alcoholic. I haven’t heard from him since last Friday and I worry he’s intoxcated or dead from alcohol poisoning everytime he disappears. I just feel completely miserable and have no outlet and feel hopeless. Then, I feel bad for feeling bad about not being able to pole, etc., when all these other things are swirling around. Don’t know why I’m writing all this. Maybe I just needed to put it somewhere so it’s not in my mind.

Here’s hoping for progress a physical therapy. And some internal relief.

Just wanted to wish you well. I hope you can find a safe outlet for your feelings whilst you heal. Injuries are horrible but you will come back from this, you will dance again and we are always here to listen. Take care of yourself.

Polebravely, I’m sorry to hear you’re going through such a rough time right now, when it rains it pours sometimes. I agree with Tropical that finding a safe outlet would be helpful!

Keep up with your physical therapy and make sure you focus on building strength in the shoulders, after. It will be ok, the body is far more amazing than we think. I know that on top of everything else and injury can seem much more discouraging than it is. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you. You’re not alone and there are always people who care even if you don’t realize it. xoxoxo

Thanks everyone, I’m looking forward to physical therapy, and I’m hoping the therapist can help me come up with a plan of attack to strengthen my shoulders. I’m worried she will say no to poke fitness or not help me, bc of the Midwest mentality around here. As for the other stuff, I still haven’t heard from my brother. I’m organizing a memorial event for my friend and letting ppl know where they can donate money to help her daughter. I’m trying to use this period of inactivity to spend more time with my dad. And I basically took tomorrow off of work. I’m going to work on lower body flexibility tomorrow and walking in heels lol, just something to do.

Sorry to hear about all of that, so sorry for the family of your childhood friend that’s terrible that happened to her. Time heals and it sounds like your shoulder will be better in a couple weeks.

Once I start physical therapy and decide to start pole, I was thinking of doing the thirty day to flexibility and also pole strength and conditioning specifically the shoulder conditioning exercises. Any recommendations on how to structure strength with the thirty day flexy? I know conditioning is recommended after working on strength or dancing. Just looking for ideas so I don’t go too far.

In the descriptions for the 30 days to flexy I list what day may be combined with training (strength) days. You’ll find that the program does include strength building because it’s also an important aspect of gaining flexibility. 🙂

Well that’s awesome, you really are comprehensive in your lesson coverage. That’s always appreciated. I’m looking forward to finishing PT and starting the thirty day flexibility with some added focus on shoulder conditioning.
