If you’re having issues gripping your pole without boots, there are several things that can help you find grip.
Being warm, and making sure your pole is also warm, are very important. Make sure you don’t have any kind of lotion on your skin, as it can make you quite slippery.
Grip can also be affected by pole finish, your climate, the temperature of the room…
But, mainly, in your case I think it’s just practice. You’ll find your grip without boots, it just takes a bit of time to learn a different way of sticking to your pole. -
Don’t feel bad, others have had this happen too. You can totally work around grip issues by making sure you fully warm up! You’ll find several warm ups in the lessons and the basic warm will also warm the pole!! Both a warm body and warm pole will make for much better grip. Check your climbing technique too, if using boots you may not have learned how to make the most of your points of contact! If you have dry skin you might try Corn Huskers Lotion. It is oil free and leaves a tacky finish. Works for me when climate and skin are cold and dry.

I went through tons of pairs of thigh highs and don’t regret them 🙂 I don’t have sticky skin either so I feel you! What grip aids have you tried? I just started using Pole Mamas behind my knees and it’s working great for me.
