Hi, I’m performing for the first time on Friday in my studio recital and I’m starting to feel anxious… I would appreciate your advice for this. How to train, how to warm up, etc. Thanks!

I remember my first performance on stage at a theater in 2014. I had done few at local studio which were nerve-wracking enough, but the one at NCPP in San Jose was a huge deal for me. Couple days before I almost backed out. I was a nervous wreck and my husband was even concerned and wondered why I was putting myself through that. All this to say that I didn’t back out and did the performance. Two girls from my studio were backstage waiting their turn and when I walked back after mine, I told them “THAT was so much fun!!!” They were shocked that I said that. Since then I have performed the same showcase in 2015 & 2016. And perform at local studio showcase also. I still get nervous, as others do, but the support and encouragement of everyone is amazing and the accomplishment is worthwhile.

At the NCPP San Jose showcase I didn’t warm up the first two years. This time I did warm up backstage with the two poles available. It made a difference for me. It also helped me focus more on performance, other than nerves.

All I can say is it will be over before you know it. I don’t know how long you have been poling, but I had been poling long time before I stepped out of comfort zone and wish I had sooner. The sense of accomplishment is amazing. Have fun!!!

Thanks Hookedonpole! I have been poling for about a year. I think I have a solid choreo with moves I can do well, but anyway… I am quiet perfectionist and I think that’s causing me trouble. I should just relax and do it, not to worry that much about nailing it to the detail. It is “just” a local studio recital, not a public event or a competition…

Funny.. I was just thinking the same thing. I am precisely in your shoes. 1 year and I feel solid on a lot of things but not so much on the coreo… I am supposed to be performing at my local studio on Saturday! And I still don’t feel ready. At all. Any suggestions. I was planning on doing Veena’s intermediate routine and I have hardly practiced it. I love pole but I do it at my own pace and I have a lot of moves but I just don’t have the flow down!! I feel like I’m better at free styling it but I am worried I will mess up if I do that!! eeek.
