Floorwork
Ok so as you can tell I am procrastinating (not procrasterbating sascha https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif again, and I am thinking about this May challenge. I wanted to film it today, but as it turns out I am completely screwed for my assignment so I can’t leave my desk and instead I am sitting here taking as short break trying to figure out some sexy moves.
I wanted to try and do some floorwork, but a short trial run proved that a very difficult task! Does anybody have heaps of trouble with floorwork? I can’t do anything without my knees going ‘no f-ing way!!’. I have a wooden floor at home so it shouldn’t be so bad, but for some reason I just can’t move around on the floor.
Also the move I try to do look crap and I always end up with my foot bent all funny! And I don’t actually know very many moves, I have just seen vids of girls crawling and rolling and splitting around all over the place and it looks great – but as soon as I’m down there it just feels like my knees stick to the ground and I’m not going anywhere!!

Wood floors and marble are the hardest not to stick to, and look like you are effortlessly gliding. My suggestion if you don’t have lots of time to practice balancing on the tops of your feet while still looking like you are on your knees… leg warmers or knee pads under leg warmers. This really helped me for the longest time. I might be able to put together a video of some of my favorite floor moves and some how to tips… that is if I can ever not be chained to my sewing machine.

Baby power helps, but only for so long. Most dance stores have thin knee pads (for about 8-10 dollars) that are made for jazz and hip hop dancers. They are about 1/2 an inch, or so, thick and are made for rolling and crawling around on the floor. They are also, normally, made of a slippery material that helps with sliding, even on carpet.
Until your feet get use to being used in that manor beware that you may get wood burn on the tops of your feet.http://www.dancewearsolutions.com/search.aspx?search=knee%20pads

I have a really hard time with floorwork too, especially because my dance pole is on hard tile floor in my bathroom – it is KILLER on my knees! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif Plus, I am not very flexible and I feel very very awkward and I really want to stick to ‘classy’ moves. I really LOVE Bobbi at Bobbi’s Pole Studio and one her videos that I have has a great section on floorwork that I’ll do for practice on carpet sometimes. yeah, i know what you´re going through. i suck on the floor.
most vids and dvd´s focus on the tricks on the pole and next to nothing about floorwork. it would be nice to get more instructional videos on the subject because it can be an important part of the dance. i mean,crawling around on the floor like some sexy tigress in heat doesnt really come naturaly to me, i look more like some poor wounded animal in agony https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif .
