  • Converting my pole?

Posted by sugardiva on May 30, 2009 at 11:42 am

When I bought my pole I really REALLY wanted a spinner, but couldn’t afford it. My studio I work out in only sold static poles and I was so anxious to get one, that’s what I got. I love it, but really wish I had that spinner! I was chatting one night with someone who said I could get spinner flanges. Any idea where I could find those?

Hi, I think that was me you were chatting with. Here’s a link to 2" spinning flanges. They are pricey. I purchased 2 of them and separately bought a brass pole. I went 1.5" with everything though – cheaper and easier to grip. You can’t turn it into static though.
Go to grainger.com and search for mounted ball bearing flange. Then you can specify the diameter of your pole.

I think you’re right, Angel! Thanks for the info! I talked to the DH, and he’s got his wheels spinning (no pun intended) now on how to make this work…

What’s a DH?? What kind of pole do you have now? oops, just read it’s from your studio. I wonder what the pole itself it like on the ends. Can you remove it from the base and top? Is it hollow? It needs to be hollow if you’re going to attach it to those flanges. Plus, my pole won’t convert to static. It’s spinny only. I think all the supplies including the pole cost me about $200.

^^^^ Sorry if I’ve missed where you’ve posted this before Angel – but I’d love to know where you got your spinny skinny brass poles! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif Mine is from Bobbi’s Pole Studio, I love it and want another one. My DH (that means Dear Husband https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif ) is wanting to build a little apartment off our house with a pole room, I’ve been loving your videos because the set-up we envision is pretty much just what you have. I’m trying to figure out if I should get another one of the removable Bobbi’s Poles, or see if she sells a permanent one, or find another source for a permanent pole. I do also love the TG 45mm X-pole…..it really does kill me to try to dance on a regular 50mm so I’m also thinking of maybe getting my second pole in a wider diameter. I’d love to be able to dance on any pole!

I’m pretty sure bobbi sells permanents b/c I emailed her a while ago and asked. She apparently just gets the spinny flanges from a plumber supply store and buys the pole separate which is where I got the idea for my own pole. I went to grainger.com and ordered 2 ‘ball bearing’ flanges and separately bought an 8 foot brass tube (google "brass tubing"). My DH had to trim the pole a few millimeters (luckily he has a metal cutter) and we put it together. I ordered everything in 38mm (1.5"). LOVE IT!!!! Are you able to go to bobbi’s studio? What I wouldn’t give to return to Australia and spend a week there fine tuning my moves!!!

Wow does she really?? The removable 38mm pole I have from her came in pieces that screw together much like the X-pole. I wonder if her permanent poles are cheaper or the same price as the removable ones…..So, when you bought your brass tubing did you buy just a single piece then? Hmmm…..I’m really thinking about trying to make my own pole now! How did you bolt it to your ceiling? And what do you use for the floor flange?

That’s so fantastic you have trained at her studio, I’m so jealous! I can tell from the way you dance you’re influenced by her! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif I’m in Texas….so I’m very far away but it’s a dream to travel to Australia one day and take some classes at her studio!

I was going to buy just the flanges from her but I found them for sale here in the US instead. The top and bottom flange are identical and have holes for bolts. I used 2 bolts for the ceiling and 2 for the floor which was cement so my hubby had to use special lag bolts with anchors. Yes, the tubing was just one piece.

Ok this is random, but I’ve only been on one forum that uses DH and similar abbreviations… and that was the Total Money Makeover forums… do we have Dave Ramsey fans here??? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif Or am I way off-base and it’s more common than I think?

    Haha https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif Completely not pole-related…

He’s a financial counselor and has a talk radio show on personal finances… more from a Christian point of view. I took his course through my church called Financial Peace University – teaches you how to get out of debt and stay out. He also deals with investing, real estate, retirement, college saving for kids, etc etc. I’m very deep in student loan debt and am using his ideas to help get me out… you can go to daveramsey.com to check his stuff out…

His most popular book is The Total Money Makeover, and he has an entire website and forum. Unfortunately, you have to pay for it – I went for a one-year subscription, but found the forums to be way over-crowded and highly impersonal. Great for loads of advice, but not if you’re looking for real support. His advice is awesome and extremely practical! Highly recommend him!

Apologies for completely crashing this thread!

LOL Foxy Rei! We love Dave Ramsey too…..been doing some of the Financial Peace University at home on our own time, but we’re really doing his program for kids with our 3-year old daughter. He’s fantastic.

I’ve also seen DH on many other forums, it seems to be pretty common! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif
