I started taking classes 2 weeks ago at a pole studio that just opened in a suburb of Metro Detroit. An uptight local complained in a letter to the Editor about the openingof such an immoral place. Local Papers picked up the story, then the Detroit Free Press, radio stations and a Detroit News station. Here’s the link to the bigger article:
    http://www.freep.com/article/20090610/NEWS03/906100360
    and my first ever video:
    http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/19716665/detail.html?taf=det
In the video, I’m the one in the hot pink top and then a black peace sign top. I was exhausted and they didn’t use my best moves; please be gentle!

I thought you looked great. One of my pole friends had Elona as an instructor at Ferndale and liked her. Good for her to open her own studio. Actually, my husband sent me the link this morning. Elona said she doesn’t have any plans to close (she just opened!) so the story will blow over and the critizism and people will realize they have no control.

    way cool!
I like how you’re pretty much the ONLY ONE DOING ANYTHING in the video.

eheheh. you better tell those other witches to support their local pole studio with some MORE VIDEO.

oh wow! look at all the free publicity your new studio is getting! classes will be packed in less than no time!
btw the owner could send a polite invitation to this michelle phiffer character to come and try a free class. maybe 2. there would be a better chance of her actually showing up if she could take a buddy and chances are strong that at least one of them would love it and the whole scandal would go down the toilet. (on the nasty side you could secretly film her taking the class an then use it to keep her mouth shut! just kidding!)
have fun poling! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif frida https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Hahaha https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif Wow. People are sooooooooooooo small minded and crazy!! LOL!

Seriously though, its probably a mixture of fear (sexy pole dancing women will steal my husband), jealousy (I don’t feel sexy anymore and these pole dancing biatches know sexy) and a lack of knowledge about what poledancing actually is. Oh well. Lets hope that lady can come along one day and then she can enjoy it instead of hate it!!

You did great, loved the gemini it looked real pretty https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Isn’t that ironic…the second I leave Detroit, they get 5 million pole dance studios… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif

Thanks for all the support! Amcut, you are so funny! This publicity has given the studio a HUGE boost! Elona open on Memorial Day, and her one night intro classes started filling up as soon as the local papers ran stories. Now that the Metro area media has picked up the story she’s gonna be swamped! She’ll have the money to mirror all the walls in no time! Maybe some uptight religious folk will protest and we’ll get the dropped ceiling removed and have 2 more feet of pole to use! Elona’s thinking of sending flowers to the "it’s immoral" beotch who started all the hoopla with a letter to the editor. I suggested she send her a coupon for a free class as well! The funniest thing is all the worry that people "will get an eyeful" walking by. There’s a gym in the same stripmall, where in the windows you can see girls exercising in tops that should be more supportive. We keep the blinds closed, though I think we should open them up so the authorities can be sure we’re "keeping our clothes on". An extra bonus to all this publicity is I don’t have to figure out a way to explain my pole stage to the uptight mother in law. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

OMG! The CEO of my agency called to let me know my letter to the editor defending my morality to the uptight bitty that started all the drama was published! I was nervous, but his only complaint was that I didn’t wear my Common Ground t shirt to promote the agency! God I love my job right now!

    Dear Editor,

I am deeply offended by the letter attacking pole dancing as lewd and immoral. I am a typical pole dancer.

I am a 38 year old married mother of three. I work full time helping people in crisis. I chose a career helping others rather than for personal gain. I garden. I recycle. I enjoy reading and backpacking. I don’t litter. I harm the environment as little as possible. I rarely drink. I don’t break the law.

I pole dance for fun and fitness. In less than a year, pole dancing has helped me to lose two dress sizes, and lower my blood pressure and cholesterol. I’m stronger and more flexible.

My dancing is less risque than the routines on Dancing With the Stars, and my clothing is less revealing as well. Can pole dancing be sensual or seductive? Sure. So can walking down the street.

This weekend, I will be volunteering in a river conservation effort, planting crops, shopping for curtain rods and native plants, and working out at Wonder Women Pole Studio. Please don’t accuse me of harming the community.

I loved your letter too. Thanks for standing up for the pole dancing community as a whole. Your letter brings home the type of people we are for those ignorant people out there who can only stereotype us as strippers. Well done! Cxxx

Thanks for the positive feedback everybody! I’ve never written a letter to an editor before, but I was just so mad! I was so excited to be in the newpaper and on the news I had my kids watching for my clips. Then there are people accusing me of immorality, I couldn’t not respond- especially for my kids’ sake. People will lose their ignorance only through education; we can all be teachers!
