I’m brand spankin’ new to any sort of poling….apologies in advance if I break etequitte. I’m on active duty so other than my boyfriend I can’t exactly tell anyone my new at home work out.

Was a designated driver the other night for my joes and wasn’t against taking them to a club. After one rather rough looking girl there was a beautiful girl doing amazing dance/acobatic moves. I was sincerely impressed.

Within a week my boyfriend and I ended up buying an at home pole (prob not anywhere as good as the ones I saw on this site) for a married friend of ours as a birthday gag gift. She and her husband have been raving about it since then. My better half and I had talked it over but it was still kinda my thing and I would eventually get around to it.

Today I found out my whole entire section (the figure category) of the body building show I have been working my BUTT off for was completely axed from the entire show. Not a real girly girl but I decided to try some retail therepy, gathered up my courage and proudly bought my pole. He’s installing it as we speak. (only had to ask once AND it looks like this project will actually get finished! wow!)

So im excited to get to still stay pretty muscular but hit some dance stuff again and its kinda like having a naughty little secret at home. Just between me and Chris. I’m excited to learn and I’m SOOO incredubly relieved to have found a classy site to learn from. A general google search will come up with some "interesting" results…

Looking forward to meeting others and sharing about how to avoid dropping myself on my own head lol!

OMG yes it is a peekabo and I already regret it!

I guess I had assumed the dvd inside would have some moves on it not just another, louder, and equally as unclear version of how to get frustrated…I mean install the damn thing. UGH!!!!

Welcome to the group. StudioVeena a great place for info and new friends. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Sorry about the Peek-A-Boo! Are you thinking about replacing it with something else?

We are active duty and residing in Deutschland. A few of my hubby’s coworkers know about my pole; I guess he just couldn’t keep it to himself! And of course with all his PT he can just lift himself no problem and I’m still building my triceps! haha

    Guten tag!
Welcome to poling and Studio Veena! You’ll probably find this workout more challenging that PT, I know I do! At 38, I think I’m stronger than I was as a 21 yo soldier. AND it’ll help you get the swish back into your hips that the combat boots seem to destroy! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
Where exactly are you stationed? I was at Herzo Base in the 210th Field Artillery, (Hoorah!) It closed down soon after I left in 91. It was just outside Herzogenaurach- which isn’t too far from Nurnberg. What a beautiful country! Have you been to Neuschwenstein (spelled wrong I’m sure), the model for Disney’sTInkerbell’s castle? Seeing that, Munich, the summit of the Zuggspitz (spelling again) and going to Amsterdam are my fondest memories of my time there.

You’ve found a great place to share your secret. This sight is a wealth of information and support!

Welcome! I’m new here too, and it’s nice to know I’m not the only soldier kicking around. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I gave up bellydancing when I decided to enlist because there just didn’t seem to be enough time for dance AND all the running and weight training required to meet PT standards. Now, with pole dancing, I’m thrilled to have a way of incorporating dance into my PT regimen. Honestly, I think it might actually be even more beneficial to me than all those mindless boring hours pumping weights in the gym. How awesome is that?! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I also understand what you mean about not being able to discuss your new hobby with coworkers. It’s been my experience so far with the military that women have to walk a very fine line when it comes to anything that’s viewed as even remotely sexual. The guys can sleep around all they want and they’re "the man!", but a girl can’t even date within the unit without risking being labeled a "mattress". The double standards can be infuriating. Personally, I try not to even mention at work that I’m taking dance classes. I’ve had to tell a few people though, and the first question I got from every single one of them was: "What kind of dance… pole dancing?" Followed by a leer. It gets old fast. (Where’s the smack icon?! I will have to settle for throwing up on their shiny spit-shone boots instead…) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_l.gif

BTW, for PoledanceABCs and any other military personnel posted to Germany, the Germans seem to use "Stanzentanz" or just plain "pole dancing" when advertising classes. "Stanze" is pole, "Tanz" is dance, "Klasse" is class, "Unterricht" or "Unterrichtsstunden" are lessons, "lehren" is to teach, and "lernen" is to learn. You may be able to Google search for classes in your area using those terms.

I have no idea how mainstream pole dancing classes might be in Germany at this point, but if I was able to find bellydance lessons there over 10 years ago then you’ve probably got a good shot at finding pole dancing classes there now. As for language barriers, my experience was that the average German was capable of speaking very good English if you were polite in your interactions with them.

    Best of luck with everything!

    kas
