I have had my X in many different rooms and homes with no problems. Damage will not happen if its installed correctly. Angel is right about finding the studs/joists. A stud finder wont work on plaster so you’ll have to use the knocking method. Also be sure your ceiling is in good condition, and yes over tightening it could cause a problem too.
