2011 November Challenge
Posted by Veena on November 3, 2011 at 2:17 pmThe November Challenge will be Chair! You can feel free to dance with a chair only or try to incorporate chair work into your pole work. Have fun! Thanks for this great suggestion everyone. xoxo https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

If anyone doesn't know where to get a good chair, Target has good black metal chairs. Mine is kinda like this one only not shiny and it works really well for dancing on. Just an FYI.

Oooh, a chair dance!
I know I keep saying it, but I'll manage a challenge soon! Perhaps, because of the "long weekend," I can do it this month. 😉

What a fun challenge! I love all of your challenges Veena! You have a great forum.
Reading this post gave me an idea.
What do you think about Platinum Stages making a pole specifically for dancing?
Good idea? Bad idea?
What qualities would make up a good chair? What colors should it come in? What material would be best? Shiny surface? Smooth surface?
Just thought it might be a good idea. But then again, not sure. Wanted to get some of your feedback. 🙂
Have a great day and weekend everyone.
Thanks,
Erica Verner

@ Platinum Stages…Hmm that's a thought! I use 2 chairs, both are folding chairs and one is smooth the other is textured.
I use each for different things depending on if I need grip or slip for a dance https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Purple is always my favorite color. I like the folding chair because it's light enough so I can slide it or pick it up to spin it, but yet sturdy enough that I feel like I can balance. So those are things I look for in a chair.

A dancing chair would be awesome, and if done right, you wouldn't have to worry about certain chairs, er, not being able to handle the strain, lets say!
That would be one of the biggest things for me- a chair that can handle people being rough with them. I know one of the burlesque dancers in Vancouver, Lola Frost, does a lot of chair dancing…and she's rough! You can look her up if you like. At the end of one of her routines I had opportunity to see in person, she throws the chair down on the ground, after roughing it up for the whole dance! It was awesome, but…the chair had to be tough!
Otherwise, it's difficult to say, because so many people like doing different things. Lets say someone wanted to do an elbow stand off a chair…well, how would you be able to make it the right height? Even if the height is adjustable, you'd still have that strength issue.
Not to mention, if you're throwing your chair about (even by accident) you'd still want it to look good, without any paint chips or unhappy scratches!
Err, I didn't think I'd go quite in depth with this one https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Just things to think about, really! I would be quite interested in a chair to dance with, though!

A back that would be more comfy for balancing your tummy on would be nice (don’t go thin on the back, that hurts.) I danced on chairs that would collapse if you did not stand directly in the center of them (and they were supposedly dance chair,) so they have to be sturdy when open. It would be cool if they slip fairly easily so you could fling them away in a routine. Smooth and slight textured are both things I like as well. I like the size if the black fold out one I have. The seat size is perfect. I danced on a different chair before and the seat was smaller and harder to dance on.

Looks like maybe a new thread is needed so we don't go off topic! I'm guessing others might have thoughts on this too. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gifIts fun to think about the perfect dance chair.

Another awesome challenge, I will also need to look into sascha's videos. I have been meaning to get a chair and this is the perfect reason to go ahead and motivate me to get one. I was looking @ Target & Bed, Bath, and Beyond, at least now I know the ones at Target are used by others. I can't wait to start seeing challenge videos https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

i already did some chair work in a video for the last challenge and had so much fun to try something new, i´ll definitly make a video for this challenge, too.
i used a wooden chair (didn´t buy it for dancing, it´s just the one i´m sitting on while studying or eating^^) and it was pretty good for all the different moves i tried.

I'll start a new thread about the chair and what to look for in a chair.
Good luck with the November Challenge everyone!!!!
