The August Challenge is….Meditation Dance. I'll explain!

Most of the time we practice our pole dancing to improve on this or that, gain strength and to learn knew things or entertain. There's usually a "reason" for a practice session. Two weeks ago I did something I've done before but have never recorded. I danced with the intention of just "being" in the moment with the music, my breath and the pole. I didn't know the music, and didn't have any plan or list of moves to use. It's very similar to a freestyle, but the intent is to breath and move with a little effort (or should I say thinking) as possible not to entertain.

Here is the video, if you need a visual of what I'm describing. https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/51e87532-3e14-4127-af45-67d60ac37250

So, find some peaceful music or whatever music puts your mind at easy and give it a try. This IS challenging! Don't worry about entertaining, just explore your movement and breath! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Love this challenge! I actually know of a song that is very meditative and even though I know it very very well, it always puts me in a bit of a trance it is so beautiful. I've never tried to pole to it because it's not a song for entertainment purposes. Well it's going to happen now! 🙂

We do a moving meditation at my studio at the end of warm-up for each class.  It's a great way to just connect with the pole, floor, and music.  Too bad I don't have enough pole space to record.

Ohhhh yes now THIS is talkin my language. This is what easily 50% of my pole practice time has been devoted to for the past year or two and I’ve seen so much growth from doing it. Can’t wait to film this one…what a great way to get back to open movement after primarily using my limited pole time this summer for crafting and rehearsing my Girl Next Door choreography.

After a brief chat with someone on our FB page last night, I'd like to add that recording is not totally necessary. The challenge is more about encouraging you find awareness within your body, breath and movement. For some, this may be so personal they are not comfortable sharing with everyone and I completely get that. If you don't feel ready to share through video, then I would love to read about your experience with this challenge right here on this thread!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Oh this sounds like what  I generally do when freestyling, although not thinking at all about lines or angles or extension (ie the esthetics of the body) and rather just being completely relaxed in the present feeling of your own physicality and the music…. that will require some concentration/or lack there of 😛 I love this!!!!!!!!!
