The basics are often neglected in our rush to learn every new trick we see, but they’re an important foundation for our pole work, these moves help connect the dots of our dancing! However, don’t let the term basic trick you into thinking I mean easy! So start perfecting, creating, and experimenting with your Climbs and Inverts.

Love this and good timing too as I was just thinking I need to clean up my inverts and my climbs need some prettyfication too! I’m so getting on this 🙂

What a great challenge! Thanks for posting this… I could use some variety in my climbs and inverts again. Funny how I’ve even forgotten that I know some of these and never use them anymore. What a refreshing challenge.

Oh cool can’t wait!
A very good reason to work on my not-graceful side climb and frankly rubbish left hand basic climb. I cheat and just do performance climb all the time because I think it looks nice.
As for inverts I’m only just getting my nerve back after injuring myself falling out of butterfly several years ago (and then stopping pole until restarting last autumn) so I’m going to really try to get comfy and smooth with the basics: bat, butterfly, CKR, CAR, Gemini, Scorpio and Chopper. As they are all so important to get right.Looking forward to seeing vids. Thanks Veena!

Advice for T-Rex: Put your head to the side of the pole instead of biting it and it’s going to be a lot easier! Impossible is nothing 🙂

That’s something I been working on recently too. Going back to basics for my less dominant side. Its amazing Im working ayisha and jazmine and bombs and scorpio-gemini switches and all on my Dom. But can’t do all the basic things yet on my less. Lol. Wow. I feel like Popye with one puffed up arm and one scrawney. Lol

Does anyone have any advice to help strengthen both? My climb is terrible at the moment due a lot of time spent off the pole due to an old back injury and I have never been able to invert. I’d love to join the challenge this month. Any tips?

I was taught
Carousel kicks
Head/elbow stands against pole – legs closed – then straddled – touch floor touch pole and down
Lie on back, hold pole bring knees, ankles up to touch pole without arching back
Plus good old Pole pull ups
….Are your 101 climb trainingAnd pole tucks/crunches/pole holds
are your 101 straddle invert trainingBasically do not invert til you can climb, sit, spin, pole hold, use all your grips to spin and lift yourself off floor and back
with strong core and total control.
Inverting is not safe if you aren’t ready.
And I have to reiterate why:I cracked two bones in my neck falling from an inversion before I was ready and strong enough; I was lucky not to be paralysed.
I was in pain for a year and didn’t get back on a pole for several years.Please… Don’t worry if you’re not inverting yet. You will know when it’s right for you.
Do the strength training.
Take your time.
Be strong and safe and beautiful.

Well said Tropicalpole…as for LightninWolf, do as she says – you will know when you are ready. I at the moment can still only kick into inverts which is wrong! But I am slowly retraining myself and practicing lots of tucking into inverts from the floor. Its coming slowly but surely. Doing LOTS of core strengthening moves like planks, reverse crunches and tucks on the pole. I can’t even tip myself back yet but I know its coming. Patience is a virtue and will possibly keep me from getting injured!

Tropicalpole, Polediva, thanks soooo much for the advice. Really, it helps. I’ve started the conditioning Tropicalpole mentioned over the weekend and even this morning, running through the exercises was easier than it was just a few days ago!

Yeah, I looked at my calendar and saw how far into the month we are and thought I’d go watch some challenge vids, but there was only the one I’d seen! lol this month is going fast!
