Lilfairie you might just do better than everyone then!!! During pregnancy your body releases a hormone called relaxin, which makes your ligaments and tendons MUCH more elastic than when you are not pregnant!

This is me at 31 weeks pregnant. I think the real challenge will be seeing where I am in May (2 months after baby is born).

I am totally on board! I have super tight hamstrings and have never done the splits, even with a background of a few years of ballet and danceline. It’s my own personal goal for 2015.

As someone who has never done any type of flexibility training, I want to make sure I do it right. From my understanding after reading the thread, flexibility training should only be done after a working out or a hot shower/bath. Yes? How many days out of the week should I be doing the flexibility training?

Scarlet: It needs to be done when you’re very very warm. For this reason it’s recommended to do it after a workout though that’s not always practical. When first beginning limit it to once a week and I think it’s after 4 weeks, you can increase it to twice a week. I hope that helps 🙂

Lilfairie: oh gosh training with a bump 😀 Your journey will be very interesting!

It’s so exciting to see everyone joining in. I will do some training when I get home from class tonight, if I have the energy! It was a bit mad after all the Christmas and New Year madness going on and I didn’t get the sessions in that I wanted so I could increase two twice a week stretching. I’m still on the conditioning programme too so it’s been hard juggling rest days, activity and the resulting tiredness.

This is my starting point… let’s see where I get to! (Hopefully I will get to better camera conditions, if not to my splits!)

Yes yes yes. Going to stretch tonight after class, so we will see where we get to.

On good days I’m very close to splits on both sides (right is my more consistent side). Looking for middle splits in 2015, chest on floor in straddle, and maybe my toes close to touching the back of my head.

I don’t have a starting picture of the latter two right now, but here are the ones (as of 12/25/2014) for the former.

So into this, felt like I was getting close but got distracted because of the holidays and a health reason 😡 here we go!

I’m still in. I had the flu over the holidays so my training suffered but I’m getting back into my routine this week.

Hi everyone! I’m so happy to find Veena and this discussions here, such a helpful place! 🙂 I’ve been focusing on stretching a lot for the last couple of weeks since I recently started to learn pole dancing I got mad about being flexible. I absolutely loved this challenge, that’s exactly what I need so thanks to you guys all. I wanna ask you about the speed of your progress.. For me, it hasn’t been long since I started but I see my progress in a day ! Less than two weeks ago when I first started I couldn’t even touch my knee with my head on easy half split position but now I’m 4-5 cm far from side splits and if I push a little I can reach it but I like to take it easy, minimize the possible injury. Can you guys tell about your experience please? For my case it looks like I’m going quite fast but no injury and I don’t have any serious flexing experience. Hope I’m not doing anything wrong. I’ll share some pics as soon as I have the time take… 🙂 Cheers xxx

    Hi Gizy!
My own experience has been one of… relative progress, but it’s very slow. I don’t stretch all the time (only after running and pole), so my progress could be better, but I’m fairly happy with it.
It sounds like you’re making some great progress, and if you’re happy with it, then that’s all that matters! It’s nice to hear that you’re taking it easy- stretching is a tough one, because it can result in injury fairly easily if done wrong, or “too hardcore.”
I did also want to touch on something in this thread for everyone to think about, on this topic: It may take more than a year to get the splits.
Alethea Austin makes no qualms about her splits achievement taking at least two years of constant work.
It is wonderful to set yourself to working on it more, within reason, this year, BUT please don’t be disappointed if you don’t get your splits by Christmas. Some people get them naturally, some do not. We’re all built differently, and our bodies may all react differently to this sort of stimulus.

    Silly Question:

So I feel like I see real progress in my side splits (YAY!), even though I haven’t been consistent in my stretching (hopefully this will change)

However I’m still just as stiff when I’m not warmed up. So obviously yes, I warm up before I stretch…. but I’m wondering if as your flexibility increases warmed up… if your “cold” flexibility eventually increases as well.

I know it’s not THAT important, but I’m jealous of the people who can bust out a split on top of a wall or railing or something. You know, those fun photos you take when you see just the right spot.

I know my limits and I’m not looking to push anything… and I know I’m getting ahead of myself because I don’t even have my splits. I’m just curious about other people’s experience. 🙂

    Thanks!
