I currentlly have two 50mm poles and I am going to purchase a third sometime this month. I am certain that I want it brass, but just not sure whether to go with 45mm or the new 40mm X-Pole Expert. HELP. I am very good with my 50mm on static, but 50mm makes spinning mode difficult. Looking for advice and experiences with different size poles. Thanks in advance.

Well, as you've probably seen from some other threads, so much of this is on personal preference. I recently sold my 50 and moved to a 45 chrome xpert. I had tried the 40mm brass poles at the studio, and they were too thin for my taste, I could USE it just fine, climbs, sits, spins, whatever, I just didn't particularly LIKE it. On the 50, I definitely loved it, but where I was missing out was it was hard to grip all the way around, so I couldn't get a LOT of throttle on spins. Even doing a backbend, there have been times I was clinging with my fingertips, praying I didn't lose grip because my fingers weren't wrapping around the pole. I don't see this being a problem on my 45. It also wouldn't be a problem on a 40 had I gone with one. Good luck!

I know I'm not as experienced as some of the other polers on this page as I've only had my pole almost a week now but I must say that I love my 45mm chrome xpert. I'm pretty petite but I can actually close my hand and feel confident vs on the 50mm where I found getting a solid grip to be difficult. Just my two cents https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I originally had a 50mm and after a year bought a 45mm, which I love. My fingers actually touch the pole and I feel alot more confident with my grip especially for Superman, and inverts.  I find CKRs easy to do on the 45mm and would love to try a 40mm but I am really happy with my 45mm.  https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Thanks for your input @SpiralOut and @FeeDen…. I'm so indecisive. I feel like the 40mm is still new n the US and that's why most people say 45… Wish I could just test 1 out! UGH

I totally understnd how you feel, I got my 45mm and it felt brilliant after using the 50mm, but there wasn't an X pole 40mm available at the time, if there was I would have been very tempted,  I think Pixi is about to get a 40mm for her X stage lite and alot of girls here love the 38mm and 40mm,  it's alot of money to spend so you want to make the right decision  have you checked out all the previous threads on the forum regarding 40mm and 45mm there have been a few they may give you more info to digest 🙂

I just used my new pole today. Went from a 50mm to a 45. I must say, I was surprised I did not feel that much of a difference. No problem doing any thigh holds. I am petite with small hands. i can't give any advice on the 40mm(never tried it). But I would say go with the 45mm.

i have really small hands so i will b getting a 40 soon. right now i have a 45 and its awesome for all my body holds. if u have no hand grip issues the 45 is a great size!

Pole diameter is determined by several factors. I did an in depth post fairly recently, about all 4 diamteres. it is very photo heavy!

Thanks Ladies… I have been reading numerous amounts of posts…. I'm so indecisive I've hear most say just go with the 45…. but I would love 2 hear someone who has tested all 3 sizes of the x pole.. I'm gonna read @AerialGypsy's post.

I have all of the sizes and use the 45 and 40mm on a regular basis. If you are fairly new to pole dance or don't pole that often I would suggest using the 45mm. The 40mm can have a "bite" to it  during some grips, that new dancers may have a hard time getting past. If you are very petite then 40 may be good, but I'm talking under 5ft 2in. just to throw a number out there. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I've used all three. For reference, I'm about 5'2" and have hands that are just under 6" from wrist to tip of middle finger and about 2.5-3" wide in the palm. On a 50 mm, my fingers don't touch around the pole, on a 45mm they just barely touch thumb to middle finger at the closest I can bring them, and on a 40, there's overlap of the first knuckles of thumb and middle finger.

I find the 50mm to bring too big to comfortably do anything. The first pole I used was a 50mm chrome, then I switched to a 45mm at the studio (and what I have at home). (I did use a 50mm brass about a year later and found I was much better, probably due to improved/strengthened grip).   I also have used 40mm chrome and either 40 or 38 mm brass (whatever is at Milan studio in Montreal).  The smaller sizes felt unbelievably tiny, even though it was just a 5mm drop (feels much more obvious than a 50 to a 45, so you'll really notice a 50 go 40 mm drop).

However, I found the 40 mm the "easiest" to use, once you adjust to the size difference. It definitely requires less perceived strength/effort in hand gripped moves (e.g., extended butterfly, cupped grip shoulder mount), and although it does require you to grip tighten for leg grips, I didn't feel any less secure on it than on a 45mm, even in a CAR and bridged CAR.  (I will say, some moves requiring a lot of tight/squeezed knee grips were more comfortable on it, like a Marley (holding both feet) or cupid/star (no hands or holding foot of bent leg)).  But those are also moves I won't do on a 50mm, because I can just barely do them on a 45 without feeling like I'm crushing the back of my knee.

I'd say overall though, my favorite is the 45, since I find it easier to apply anything learned to both 50 (with some sketchy hand grip at times) and easily to the 40mm.  If I were going get a 2nd pole though, it would probably be a 40 or 38mm.  I rarely ever touch a 50mm now.

Is there anywhere you can go to test out one of the smaller poles first?

Haha, Veena, you used my magic number (I'm 5'2" on a "good" day).

Im 5ft2 too and petite. Can’t work with a 50mm and I can only do so much on a 45mm, when im practicing my tg lifts or iron x moves My fingers tend to have a hard time gripping.

I recently got a 40mm titanium gold and it has been great in terms of learning the power moves. I def think it depends on body build as to which size pole is good for you.
