    Hi everyone!
My friend and I are doing a doubles routine in our society’s end of year pole competition – we’re thinking of it as a showcase rather than a competition as such, not expecting to win anything πŸ™‚ but I would like some opinions about the theme of our routine.
We’re doing it to Michael Buble’s rendition of the Spiderman song – it’s a really jazzy/swingy piece and the choreography is looking good so far! However, we’ve got so caught up in the feel of the song that we kind of forgot that it is still the spiderman theme! Here it is on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfdTjXDUlnY&feature=youtube_gdata_player
So my question is, would it be weird if we DIDN’T have spiderman-themed costumes and moves? I think it’s a great song in its own right, but I’m wondering if people (i.e the audience) would be like ‘Why are they dancing to the spiderman song when their routine is nothing to do with spiderman?’
We’ve made sure the moves follow the music really nicely, but I’d like to know what you guys think πŸ™‚

Well all of the feedback I have gotten from judges says to have the song and the routine go together. You should be almost putting on a show. Connect with the audience. Move to the music-flexed feet if the moves/music calls for it and pointed where it calls for it etc. My biggest advice is to have fun. You're a winner weather you place or not! Good luck!

BTW I don't always agree w/ feedback either. You may feel like you do connect but they want more etc. Best advice is to be yourself and breathe.

Thank you for your reply πŸ™‚ see we are already following the music – pointed toes, little kicks in time with the music, fast moves when it’s fast, slow moves when it’s slower, but we just aren’t really using the spiderman aspect for our costumes or movements.
Do you have any suggestions for this if you think it’s important? So far the only thing we’ve come up with is doing the spiderman hand thingie on moves with extended arms πŸ˜›

You can always do face painted spiderman and red and black bootyshorts-crop top. That should be easy enough to do and will go with your theme.

Maybe a spider web prop? I like  joni1's idea of face paint too! And the outfits that way are perfect. You could even use black electrical tape to make spider webs on your costumes:) Let us know what you choose.

It lists it as about 25% on our score cards as to how well the performance goes w/ the song etc.

Thanks for the ideas guys! I’ll chat to my friend about it and see what she thinks.
If anyone has more ideas in the meantime please post them! πŸ˜€

Spiderman is not always in costume, you know.  99% of his life is Peter Parker.

or maybe you can wear all black and just have that spiderman spider crest thing on the chest of the uniform on the chest of your costumes maybe one of you can have that spider thing in blue glittery stones and one of you in red stones. Also I see a lot of polers with one stalking on – kind of like a big fishnet or the criss crossing straps that go over the torso connecting the top of their outfit to the shorts – that could represent the web. Sorry if I sound confusing I know its not the best explanation. I'll put pics if I can find them later

Cherished that sounds cool! Pics would be helpful though if you can find any πŸ™‚
Haha chem I know, but I don’t think Peter Parker makes for a great pole costume πŸ˜›
Our original plan was to have braces and maybe a top hat, if you listen to the song (if you haven’t already) that might make more sense πŸ™‚

Could you maybe start out dressed as "Peter Parker" and then "strip off" (!) to a spiderman-themed costume – maybe some kind of spiderweb stockings or arm warmers, or a fishnet (or larger net) top with maybe red or black shorts with a spider motif on? Maybe for the Peter Parker bit you could wear a "suit type" jacket? (I will have to google him and see what he wears when he's not spiderman!) You could just walk on wearing the jacket, do a few walks,  bottom-sticking-out poses/moves etc. Maybe you might find inspiration from some of Bobbi's pole studio vids on You Tube? At one of the "end of term" performances at Bobbi's one of the girl had on a fishnet type long sleeved top, which was actually a pair of panty-hose that she'd cut a hole for her head where the crotch part was – looked really cool, you never would've guessed they were pantyhose!

Alright here is a whole bunch of links lol so you have to visualize! If these ideas won't work maybe they'll inspire some that will πŸ™‚

So… when I say spiderman crest I mean this thing on the shirt here:

    http://tcritic.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/marvel-spider-man-costum-01.jpg

I picture it in red or blue rhinestones on an all black outfit on the chest of your costume or if your top is too small then stuck to your abs. If you have a webby/strappy peice over your torso that attaches from the top of your costume to your bottom you can stick it there. Here is an example of strappy outfits https://www.studioveena.com/photos/view_album/51773156-e854-409c-af34-48680ac37250 Maybe you can do yours in more of a web shape

Or maybe wear monkini type of thing but have the center strip of the monokini more webby

Here are some web shape examples

and here is an example of a pole dancer (alethea) in the one "stalkinged" outfit I was referring to

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7Hm8oKxZI8

Ò€‹and then you wrote something about a top hat which could add some more style to the whole thing.

Also you can always put glitter on the web pieces or wherever to make it pop more if it's too simple.

So there are a few ideas!

or maybe sequins instead of glitter and a couple of other ways to add color: blue shoes, red shoes, clip in hair streaks of blue/red.

Now I want to do a performance with a costume hehe. Also I love the song you guys chose πŸ™‚

One of you could be Peter and the other, his alter ego Spiderman. I love that song btw!!!

As a judge I like to see the costume fit the theme. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_batman.gifhttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cop.gifhttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_viking.gif
