Aerial inverted v on spin mode
Posted by Pole Angel on August 30, 2011 at 8:49 amHi ladies, I’m having trouble with my aerial inverted v. I am quite strong with this move and can happily do it aerially – however as soon as do so on spinny mode, the spinning stops.
Looking at videos, I think my problem may be that when I go to do it aerially I bring my body round to the front of the pole and then invert – whereas in alot of videos I have seen they seem to bring their body just round to the side.
Does this help the spinning do you know? As soon as I put my body in front of the pole the spinning stops. I’ve tried doing it from the side, but really struggle to get my bum up – not sure if this is a strength issue? Any help will be appreciated! Xxx

the technique for spin pole inverts is quite a bit different– instead of forcing your hips up, you want to think about getting them OUT and then using the momentum of the spin to get them up and over. but i would add that this takes quite a bit more strength than a typical invert on static pole until you get the feel for it.
here's a great tutorial on spinning pole fan kicks, which is the same technique. i hope this helps!

Do you stop when you are spinning from both directions? As in spinning left and also spinning right? I find that on spin, some moves cause me to start to spin backwards because they are in the oppostie direction to the one I am spinning in if that makes sense. Maybe the direction you are moving in to get to the front of the pole is counter to the direction the pole is moving which causes it to start to spin backwards and therefore grind to a halt? It's hard to say without seeing it, but it is a thought perhaps…

hmm trying that link again:

Oh Amy thank you so much- that makes so much more sense now! Will definitely give that ago.
Mad-ooh good thinking. Had not even considered that it might be my direction of the spin. I tend to invert on the left hand side (so pole is on my right) and spinning in a clockwise direction. Might be slowing me down.

Alright, sorry to revive this dead thread, but this was my exact question. I can do a controlled chopper/V invert but I can't get much spin on it without really throwing myself into it, which isn't cute. Goes for both aerial Vs and normal Vs from the floor.
The video was really helpful, gave it a try real quick, and it feels TOTALLY different from a normal V invert… if I' m understanding correctly, I'm almost supposed to be swinging my leg out behind me rather than forward and up? It feels so odd, like I'm going backwards! The mechanics are completely different, I'm surprised I haven't seen any other discussion/tutorial on this. If anyone else has additional tips I would really like to hear them.

This is hard for me to figure out as well. I see some grap the pole, whip their bodies to the side, go about a full turn while hanging on parellel to the bar and then invert. I'm clueless, I hope Veena will cover this in her new spinning lessons down the road. One thing I did learn off a thread is when going into this spin is try the "true grip" bottom hand normal, top hand in a cup grip???? I tried that hold on a static invert today, lets just say THAT didn't work. Glad you brought up this post, all tips will be appreciated.

That vid is awesome! I wanna get a bad kitty sports bra too…but thats a diff. discussion lol.

I've been meaning to try the true grip v too… forgot about that. I lost my locking pin though, not sure if I'm brave enough to try it on spin lol.
But that video was immensely helpful… It felt weird at first but I'm starting to get the hang of it. I found it helped to keep my grip lower than normal and to think of turning my body into my pole before I invert rather than just going straight up and over like a normal deadlift/aerial invert. I think I'll take a few videos and see if I can see a difference.

I watched the video…..not sure i understood it. Is this supposed to prep us for sppinning ariel invert?

Lyme, the true grip isn't used for the Basic invert, that would be much like inverting with one arm! It's used for decending from off the pole, spinning while inverted… like in the spinning V/chopper…or to hold a static V.

Venna, no wonder it was so hard!!!! Maybe tomorrow i will just try to do a one arm invert……jk. 🙂

I made a quick video showing what I did today to get mine to spin better… basically the same technique as shown in the spinning fan kick video, but specific to inverts…

The difference is huuuge going into the invert from the floor! My aerial V always spun alright but it looks so much better using the same method as spinning into it from the floor.

Kyrelle, great video! However I have a long way to go before getting the Ariel spinning V! I will work on the floor method Saturday.
