Glitter, I wish I had your guts and that my hubby would be OK with me doing an amateur night. It’s a dream of mine simply because I think it takes a lot of guts to get up there in next to nothing and perform in front of people oogling your body.

I am so proud of you for doing what felt right for you. YOU GO GIRL! Next time those other dancers better watch out because Glitter is taking 1st prize. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Hey girl!!! Just read your post and ugh, Im so mad at those ‘sisters’!! Its not right that they got to compete in an amateur night!! You obviously really were the clear winner when both of these beeeaaaatches are veteran dancers!!! Grr!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mad.gif

Not that it needs to be said again, but congrats glitter! I knew you’d be awesome https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Unfortunately, that’s how it usually is – the poles are slippery, the music is bad and the shoes are annoying. As for the poles, I always wipe them down with a cloth and spray bottle first – It looks silly, but at least I don’t fall down. After 2 songs they usually get slippery again, and I have a list of moves I can do without needing great grip – it’s handy to figure out which tricks still work on a slippery pole because sometimes you don’t have an option. Especially when some of the girls are stupid and wear moisturisers, it just messes the poles up for the whole night.

As for the music, I hate techno. Some clubs have dj’s and you get to choose the music – I worked in one where they had everything on a computer and each girl had her own folder. When she went on stage the dj would just pull up her folder and put on the songs she likes to dance to. In clubs like that you have to pay a dj fee though, to pay for the service. In mine, its just a computer with a heap of songs on random.. if you’re nice to the boss sometimes they’ll put music on but not always. In 4 years, I have had to dance to some shockers… included are mmbop – hanson, yellow submarine (three times now, not cool), the nutbush, the macarena, bat out of hell (it goes for like 10 minutes and we have to do 4 songs)… and the bob the builder song. You just get used to dancing to crappy music after a while.

As for the shoes, plastic tops (for grip) with ankle straps are the best on stage – i’ve seen so many shoes go flying, ankle straps are important! If I don’t have ankle straps, I get a pretty ribbon and wrap it around the top of the heel and then my ankle, so at least they don’t go flying.

Pole twista – i’m not sure how it is in the US, but here every club is different. Some clubs have a varying percentage – if you work 2 days in a week, the next week you only keep 40%. if you work 5 days, the next week you keep 90%. A lot of clubs have a door fee – you pay a certain amount to work for the night. Some clubs change it depending on the time you start – so if you don’t want to pay a door fee you just start really early. The later you rock up, the more you pay. It’s usually higher for busier clubs, and also higher on weekends. In some clubs they sell tipping money to the guys, so you have to hand it in to the club to get the money back, and you only get a percentage. In some they just trust you to hand your tips in and you keep half…

Most clubs here have a bond as well, in case you’re interested. You have to pay a certain amount when you start – usually a few hundred. If you do something wrong or have to leave in bad circumstances – like not showing up for a shift, punching a customer and having to be forcefully removed, getting too drunk to stand and being sent home or fired – they keep the bond. It kind of keeps the girls in check, they don’t misbehave because they lose their cash.

In mine, there is no door fee, but the percentage is only 55%. We keep our tips and the girls are friendly. The bond is the pay you make – they give it to you on your next shift instead of on the same day. If you make $300 one night, and just don’t show up for your shift, you lose that money. If you’re late or do something wrong, they can fine you and take that out of your pay. There’s much more to it than just giving them money, but usually if you do the right thing you don’t lose anything.

Thanks for responding everyone! Omg Neke I can’t believe you had to dance to the bob the builder song!

I did wear black stilettos with the plastic tops and the ankle strap but the stage was so slippery I think my foot twisted and my toes popped out so it was easier to rip them off than try to fix them! They had a rag to clean the pole with but they must have set it out there at the beginning of the night because there was no liquid on it anymore to clean the pole! I was a little mad that those two sisters were in it because I know I would have won but oh well! I think I still did pretty well anyway but I haven’t heard back from them yet https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Congratulations, Glitter, for having the bravery and guts to do the competition. You know…I think I’ve seen those two sisters on a billboard–along the Stevenson Expressway– advertising a club out in Aurora, LOL! Maybe they were having a slow night at the home club and just stopped in to steal your glory!

Sounds like you were the REAL winner!

With Glitter’s permission,I write about last week’s amateur night…and my FIRST VISIT to a strip club. Yes, I have lost my strip club virginity!

Glitter sent me a PM about 2 weeks ago inviting me to come to the south suburban club where she danced a few weeks ago in the amateur competition. I wrote back that it was a possibility–that I had never seen a pole dance live, and had been thinking about going to a club. I’d brought the topic up with my wife-several times–if only half seriously. I told Glitter I would have to talk it over with Laurie and I would get back to her. I printed up Glitter’s e-mail, showed it to Laurie, and said I really wanted to go. Since I was really scared about the whole thing, this would be the beast way to do it, because at least I would know somebody there. To my surprise, Laurie agreed to it–not enthusiastically…but didn’t object. She even held out the possibility she might go with me!

Glitter texted me at about 10PM that night, confirming everything was going as planned. I left, arrived at about 10:30. I brought $120 in cash, knowing Chicago’s sad federal history in the 1970’s of strip club credit card fraud I was afraid to use credit–but I guess this is NOT a problem nowadays. RIght off the bat, the attendant wanted 10 bucks to park the car inthe "Valet" section…the parking lot on their property, LOL! There was a $10 cover…about the same as my music club, which charges $8 on weeknights. I came overdressed, wearing Khakis and a polo shirt–but some guys were wearing jeans and t-shirts…and even a few with shorts! I think the maitre d’ (lol! is that what they call the doorman with the walkie talkie in his ear?) sized me up because of that…he said, Hold on, sir, I’ve got JUST the girl for you!" So a young lady in a black cocktail dress, with the top open materialised in about 30 seconds.

I did get a chance to meet Glitter early inthe night…a quick hug and a hello…but she said they were not allowed to talk to customers, so I quickly withdrew and took my seat…

She offered a private dance–there were all kinds of cost structures, but basically $20 for a dance topless, 30 nude, and a bewildering array of combos and specials–hard to understand because the music was loud!. I explained that I was here to support a friend in the contest.

The club has an oval stage, narrow in the middle like a figure 8–with two Brass poles. The regular dancers varied in their pole skills, but there were two sisters that were exceptional, doing shoulder mounts, inverts, and split heels. I tipped the floor $5 after every one of the floor acts if they did any pole work at all. A number of the dancers then came up to me afterwards and sat at my table (I was down front, by the stage). I talked to a lady named Gia for a long time and explained to her that I poled also. She didn’t believe it at first, but when I started talking about her split heel move, she saw I was serious. She had watched many You-Tube videos. She asked if I knew Jamilla (!). Then she told me there was this lady–the "Boo Boo girl"–who did the "triangle trick". I said, you mean BERTYSBOOBOO? She said, "yeah!, that’s her–she’s awesome…the Boo Boo girl. I’m gonna do that trick…it’s awesome!" She told me that all of the dancers had watched that video on a laptop one day in the dressing room! They all knew about Studio Veena and Polejunkies, too!

After a while, quite a few of the stage dancers came up and talked to me…whenever I tipped the stage…

In general, the club was very busy…there is so much going on..announcements, music, dancers walking by…it was a little hard for me to keep track of everything. Definitely it was "Sensory Overload."

Finally, the amateur contest started. There was a large number of dancers–20-30, so they paraded them onto the stage in small groups. It really didn’t give them a chance to show off their skills at all. I will say that Glitter was MAGNIFICENT! She got right on the pole and was clearly the MOST skilled poler in her group. The "mass" presentation really cheated all the girls out of their chance to shine..it was over in like 2 minutes and I didn’t even realized she had been eliminated. REALLY UNFAIR to her, I thought. But you guys would have been proud of her…she was FANTASTIC, CONFIDENT, not a bit nervous!

Glitter came around to say "hi" and introduced me to her friends, a couple that had come with her. (By the way, there were couples in the club, including what looked like a group that had just finished softball–they were in their uniforms..). They had to leave in a hurry…(work tomorrow!)

So I had one final dilemma–I was pretty sure I might never go to a club again…this episode was kind of pushing it already with my wife. S-o-o-o- YES, I decided to get a lap dance… That turned out to be more than a notion–they had all given up on me earlier in the evening. So I just went up to earphone guy and I said, "OK, I changed my mind…can I get a dance?" Withina few minutes, a young lady showed up.

The dances are given in a large room with an immense built -in leather couch that winds all the way around the room– off to the side of the main club room. Uh…I thought nude meant topless..but nude meant…well, "nude" She sat in my lap at first and said her name was (******), a common Ukranian name. It is the EXACT name of my coworker…and then I got the giggles. I think she thought I was insane, so I explained why I was laughing. She said, is her last name (*****)?, which means "white" in Slavic root languages. It’s like "Mary Smith." She goes, "oh yes, that is my name, too–very common in Poland and Ukraine…can we start the dance now?"

Well, that young lady was VERY BENDY…and well, perhaps it was a tad too much anatomy…but I’m glad I had the experience. Rest assured, my hands NEVER left the couch! She stopped at exactly the moment the song was over and said, "We continue?" I said, "No, that was pretty cool, but I had to get home!" I didn’t have any change and I was embarrassed to ask, so I gave her two of the last three twenties I had (a ten dollar tip) She said the economy was TERRIBLE and nobody ever tipped anymore. We said polite good byes, shook hands and I headed out.

I headed for the parking lot with $21 left, tipped the Valet $1 for driving my car 6 feet to the door. On the way home, I filled the tank and arrived home with $0, LOL!

Laurie was still up when I got home. I gave her a detailed narrative of the entire experience…lap dance included… She looked a little irritated…but not mad. She said, "OK, well that was your Father’s day present." Then she hit the remote and we finished watching that "Therapy" show that’s on HBO, LOL!

My feelings about the experience? I had a GREAT time. I was NERVOUS AS HELL, but finally got to see some live pole. Meeting Glitter was a high point. Let me tell you that You-Tube does not do this GORGEOUS young lady justice. She is very petite, and has the deepest, darkest, soul revealing eyes…and the face of a top model. She has an amazing personality..lively, vivacious..and sweet.

So "Thank You!" Glitter! It was an experience of a lifetime!

OMG Glitter you’re so much the shit for even getting up on that stage!

I have a running fear of being in a strip club when they ask for amateurs to come on stage and dance because I wuld never have the courage!

I’m so proud of you! If they don’t hire you and you really want to dance then go for it. Check out those other places and see what comes up. if it’s meant to be it will happen.

Ooh I almost missed this post! I’m glad you did a recap, maybe this can be my official "amateur night" thread since I’ve done a few now haha!!!!

I think Joel summed it all up better than I even could….the two sisters were really amazing on the pole. At one point one of them was swinging around on the ceiling beams, it was quite intense!

One thing that did happen to me that was kind of strange/exciting was that they had all the "amateurs" corralled into this cabana area where I waited last time except this time they had a pole in there so all of us that could pole took some turns doing tricks. Not to be haughty but I think my pole skills were on par with the rest of the dancers and a lot of them had been dancing for a while. I had really heavy knee length boots on and the pole was a 50 and I use a 45 so I was a little nervous about doing any tricks in case I missed them and looked stupid….but I nailed EVERY TRICK! It was soooo weird! One girl tried to do a shoulder mount and missed…so then I stepped up to do one assuming I would miss it too because I only get them about half the time I try and NEVER with shoes on…and I did it on the 50 pole with the million pound boots on too! Then I did a bodywave and I even taught another girl how to do superman…it was just insane. I think it must have been reverse performance anxiety or something because I did way better than I do when I’m at home practicing by myself!

That’s awesome glitter!!! Sometimes having an audience really gets you pumped up and you can do more than usual. In fact, psychology classes will tell you that if you are not good at something (or rather if you do not feel that you are good at it) you will do worse with an audience. BUT if it is a skill you excell at, you will do better with an audience! Well done!

Joel, how cool that you two got to meet!!!

Awesome job, Glitter! We’re all so proud of you! One of these days you’ll win for sure! Keep at it!

And Joel, your entire post had me laughing… no offense! As nervous as you claimed to be, you had no shame in giving such a detailed account of the whole night. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

Sascha and I are going to one next month… keeping my fingers crossed she wins! (I’m sure she will, Sascha’s awesome!)
