Ok, I have come to the conclusion that my legs are just too darm small to hold onto the pole correctly.  Have any others had this issue?

Hahahahaa!  I am sorry but I think this is so cute.  Besides, it doesn't look like you have chicken legs 😉  It takes time and lots of determination to practice on technique.  If you have veena's lessons, she gives awesome tips on how to tip your pevis, squeeze in your hip, and other key points of contact that we would not usually think of–really!  I got her lessons and nailed a move that bewildered me, after just watching it a few minutes before.  Another thing I am learning, is that I have to >>>>sqeeeeeeeeze<<<<<< more.  I almost feel the release of my muscles when I release them, but it builds up the muscle memory (I find) so that I can have more of a hold on something.  I am imagining you are referring to knee pit grips and maybe pole sits…?

    I just think SQUEEEEEZE!!!!  hahaha

Haha! I have had a couple chicken leg polers in class, and the problem is usually technique or– DRY SKIN.

    hahaha yes!!!

It definitely makes it hard, especially because for some things as my thigh gap is bigger than the actual pole. I found pole sits impossible at first because I slipped straight through lol.  But like Jellicrew said, there are certain ways you can tip your hips that create better points of contact.

OMG…have you ever seen Karol's legs?  I swear her calves are about the size of my biceps (and my biceps may even be bigger)!!  My one girl also has thin legs and she is freaking amazing on the pole.  No one said pole was easy!

I have really, really thin legs so I feel your pain. It was hard at first to get grips for even simple things like just sitting on the pole. Everyone else in my class had normal sized legs so they had a lot more…um meat…than me to use and press against. I kept at it and eventually I built the muscle needed to make up for that. But those first few months I would use tricks like, crossing my legs to use each other as a tension plus my own grip to help. It gets easier, plus for the first time since…well ever…my upper thighs actually touch now instead of that gap which I found kind of odd looking. But that's just me. 🙂

I had the same problem when i started. Try using a grip aid if youre making contact but still not sticking. And Veenas lessons do really help- they are so worth it, especially if you have a pole at home. Just keep at it!

I've had a pole for one week and am having the same issue.  I've practiced only three times now and I'm catching on to the intermediate spins really easily.  Climbs are a bit more difficult.  It's extremely difficult to use my thighs to grip as there is NO support.  I'm sure I just need more practice practice practice…and to learn better technique.  I need to build more muscle, for sure.

Chemgoddess, I was also going to mention Karol's legs too. ha ha.

But yes, it's all about practice and learning how to squeeze/rotate your hip or leg or knee or ankle so there is the maximum amount of skin touching the pound. I have an easier time sticking to the pole than some girls who are curvier than I am but I think it's all about being aware of your body and how it works. Sometimes, it's as simple as making sure you're not slouching or whatever.

AND DRY SKIN! Trying to find that balance between moisturizing but making sure you're not too greasy is hard. Winter and snow are lame.
