Any rock chicks around? (Esp. Manchester UK)
Posted by Joalex on April 2, 2012 at 3:06 pmHi!
Although I'm pretty open-minded musically, I've always loved rock and metal, and just wanted to hear from some like-minded pole dancers. I've been doing pole for about 4 years, but am only just starting to try and develop my dancing style, and would love any tips you have to offer.
I'd also like to hear what songs/bands you like to pole to. Personally, I love the passion of Foo Fighters and Killswitch Engage, the groove of White Zombie, and also some older stuff with a little sexy swagger, like The Cult or Van Halen.
After seeing Steel Panther in Manchester, UK last Friday, I saw a poster for POLEFIRE – pole classes to rock & metal. Sadly I'm about 2 hours away from Manchester, but it sounds awesome! Does anyone here go to it?

i am a fellow rock chick i have only been learning pole since January so not far into my journey but loving every second. I must admit i havent tried to pole to any rock music yet as choosing slower songs at the moment until my confidence grows although i did pole to silverchair miss you love the other day x

Aah, Silverchair! I love 90's music. In fact I talk about the 90's like old people talk about the 60's!
Good luck with your pole journey, sounds like you're doing really well so far! x

Love this topic! I only dance to hard rock…my faves include Godsmack, Tool, anything by a Jack White band, AC/DC, etc. Can you recommend a Killswitch Engage song to try?
-
Haha, great post! Van Halen is awesome to dance too, but I also really love Soundgarden for heavier dancing music. 🙂

Sure! I used to be in a band myself. (Technically I still am, except now I live half a continent away from them.) Hard rock is fabulous to pole to. Lots of moments for hard throws & drops, or at least hair tosses. Classic favorites among dancers are Enter Sandman and Du Hast, though on the Rammstein end of things I always liked Te Quiero Puta. 🙂

I'm in Sydney….so pretty far away from Manchester UK but I loveeee metal. My fav bands are children of bodom, metallica and DevilDriver. But, I am pretty open minded. I love rock generally 🙂 Unfortunately it's sooooo fast so it's a bit hard for me to dance to hahaha.

TOOL, A Perfect Circle, Chevelle, and Lacuna Coil is my fave

I have a playlist of classic rock and heavier songs that I'd love to choreograph but whenever I try, I find I don't have the confidence to do the music justice lol

My husband is in a thrash band called Mucus 🙂 They formed at school about 15 years ago and have recently reformed, however, it's surprisingly difficult to get 4 almost 40 year-olds together at the same time for rehearsal, so they don't do many gigs! I keep offering to pole dance at their gigs, but so far they haven't take me up on their offer. My husband obviously sees the awesome potential of a pole performance mixed with a rock show, but the other 3 are yet to be convinced. Maybe they think I'll upstage them!

@ollie – I know what you mean. Even though I've been doing pole for about 4 years (with a baby break!) for most of that time I've just been learning isolated moves or freestyling. I'm only just starting to choreograph routines. Dancing to a whole song is quite hard, especially something like Tool, you need a ton of stamina!!

I think you are onto a great idea, Joelex. Pole performance to live rock music! And I think you are right in some of the guys may be thinking you would upstage them. But your group would get more bookings and publicity : )

I think I have seen a video of Charley poling on stage with a band, I believe it was her boyfriend's band. 🙂 It was awesome! My hubby plays guitar, and I have been trying to convince him to play while I dance to it since I first saw it!

I'm a pin-up rocker girl with the tattoos to match haha my poor mother. My boyfriend is about 90% tattooed minus his face and his hero is Nikki Sixx, we get the best looks when we're out together!!! I usually do burlesque inspired performances but when I pole at home it's always to rock music. My boyfriend is a hair stylist and he has about 15 clients in bands, as soon as I get my x-stage it's on!!! I have done a video to a song by my friend's female fronted metal band and that's their youtube video with the most hits https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
