Anyone with Homemade poles
Hi All,
Ok so im feeling soooo left out when i watch you guys pole and even when i try to stop myself from watching – i cant help it- its like a magnet that just keeps sucking me in. I miss pole classes so much even though i was only a beginner.
I was watching youtube yesterday – and sulking from jelousy – when it hit me, cant you just make your own pole, so i did a google search and sure enough some tutorials came up,but i am a little apprehensive because i know pole can be very dangerous but i cant take it anymore.
Anyone one on here using a home made pole and if so can you please tell me if its worth it and sturdy and how did you make it. I have seen some tutorials on ones that would be bolted to the ceiling and one where you dont have to attach it to the ceiling its like the stand alone poles on a platform – i would post a link but i dont know how to. any imput would be appreciated.
For anyone wondering I lost my job early up in the year and had to give up poling and spending money on getting a new x pole shipped to my country was put on the back burner, but the materials to make a pole should be available here and would probably be cheaper.

I think Joel Lessing, a member here had/has a homemade pole. If you don’t get a lot of responses you can try messaging him. I’m not sure of his name here but on youtube he’s poledancefan.

I have a homemade pole in my basement. I made it out of pipe from the hardware store. It runs through a board that is screwed between the floor joists and is screwed into a flange that is bolted to the floor. I have also made a “stand alone” pole but I found that one to be VERY difficult to stabilize. I couldn’t do aggressive spins on it or any moves where much of my body weight was far from the pole.

darcit thanks for the input I thought about that with the stand alone i was thinking about using concrete blocks in all the corners along with some cement bags but i still want to try it cause my mother would always say to me “nothing beats a trail(try) but a failure.” so i going to try the one i saw on a website

Our poles are mostly stainless steel poles from the local metal centre, which we then had powder coated. My father-in-law made custom brackets to attach them at the top and we have non-slip plates at the bottom. They’re all removable because we also use the studio for bellydancing. They were far, far cheaper than regular poles, but you need to have someone who knows what they’re doing because they need to be 100% safe. Unfortunately they’re all static only, so we use our stage pole in the studio as well so we’ve got access to spiny mode. Our stand alone is an X-stage lite – because it’s not attached at the top, I wasn’t prepared to risk designing something that may not be completely safe.

Thanks so much for the input guys. Yes i am trying to get advise from someone who knows what they are doing but if that doesnt work then i am going to be very through in my research before i even start constructing.

When you start comparing prices you will end up almost the same out of pocket as you would for a used good pole. Joel’s original pole I think was painted galvanized steel and he had it attached on top and bottom. You can buy brass railing but you are looking at over $100 for an 8′ section. You can get stainless tail pipe (muffler) at street rod type shops but again you are looking at over $100 for an 8′ piece.

Im still doing my calculation process and trying to decide which one to do, the stand alone or the one which would be attached, (although I saw a tutorial on youtube for a removable pole), while trying to find someone here that sells the galvanized steel, I found one place but I have to call tomorrow cause they are closed on weekends.I thought about it and I dont think it would come up to as much as we think, an x-pole is 299usd or lets say 300usd flat when I convert that to my currency that is 598bbd then to add shipping 190usd or 380bbd when I inquired, and then when it gets here I would also have to pay to get it from customs not sure how much that one would be. So I would be looking at no less than 900bbd.
ohhhhh currency conversion.The used poles that I have seen are still about the same with people selling for 1-something to 200usd then I would probably also have to pay for shipping and handling, then customs. So I think that its just about the same as if I was to get an x-pole.
Anyways thanks again for the input much appreciated I’ll find out about the pipe and go from there.

I have seen the plans for the stage poles (trust me, I looked into all of that prior to me buying a pole myself) and after having been on a few home made poles you are really better off with an attached one. Most of the stage pole designs on the web are made to be dance poles, not acrobatic poles. Also it is really hard to make the pole not move around a lot. XPoles and SSA’s actually lock into place. There is no easy way to do that with a home made stage pole.
