Back pain. Is it only me?
Posted by Polefit Korea on July 1, 2013 at 12:26 amJust curious.
Every time I make a success on a major move on my wish list, I tend to get lower back pain after pulling off that move. For example, back pain followed after Ayesha success and it lingered for a week or so, and another lower back pain this time again after pulling off TG deadlift. I wonder if it only happens to me or to other polers too. The pain usually goes away in a week, but it is frustrating that I don't get to practice for a week when I really want to perfect the move that I succeeded. Is it just something natural like muscle growing(?) or strengthening pain or is it that I 'm doing something wrong?

This is exactly what happens to me too! I stretch and do everything your supposed to but still get the aches ! not so much as I used to get it however.
Annoying tho. x

I haven't exerienced it myself, but what kind of pain is it? Does it hurt when you do things just in your ordinary life as well or only if you work on the pole? One week of pain sounds quite long to me.

This happens to me too but I do notice that the days that I end my workout with stretching & then take a soak in a warm bath, that my back is A LOT less sore than when I don’t. I think it is normal…we are working alot of muscles in our backs & shoulders especially when executing advanced moves 🙂

Me too! I also do a lot of training at the gym and my back has been in pain on and off for almost 9 month now, the only thing that helps is heat on it and not using the back muscles too much and walking a lot – like 10miles and more a day and running has made the pain worse. Overtraining and short recovery time is just happening way too often.

Thank you all for the kind replies. It aches when trying to do the pole moves that engage back and ab muscle . However, what's for sure is the frequency and the intensity are decreasing. Heat seems to help definitely. And some rest too. I'm gonna have to see itIee it as a sign that my body says 'You need a pole hiatus , you pole junkie!' haha.

Polefit Korea, if you are taking the lessons here try working on some of the conditioning lessons for the core. Lessons are placed in groups so try starting with this one:
https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4df4be6f-3160-46c9-9e73-67a10ac37250 There are 7 total for the core. Do them 3 times a week and see if that helps.
Also if you haven't started working on back mobility that could help too. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Thank you a lot, kind veena.
I'll try it. Hopefully they will help.

That's what happened to me. I had severe pain in my lower and upper back all the way up to me neck. I was freaked out so I took my pole down, it was pretty bummed out because I really wanted to learn how to pole dance. I couldn't go anywhere past inverts, I tried and tried but it was painful and scary. So to sum it up, I quit pole dancing and put my pole for sale =/

ChristinM, that's sad to hear you've decided to quit. Did you try any exercise to strengthen your core? Having pain isn't normal when you are learning to pole dance, pole dance can be a great workout and method of expression. Maybe if you tried again and focused more on strengthening before moving on to inverts you might have a better outcome?

To all you ladies with back pain … you might want to go see a specialist to check whether you got some kinda postural problems going on (i.e. kyphosis, lordosis, flat-back or sway-back). I've read about estimations that 80% of all people with a mostly sedentary lifestyle have a kyphotic-lordotic posture, and yes, that causes back pain. There are things that can be done about that and it could save you years of pain ..
