Beautiful pole dancer?
Posted by Veena on April 16, 2013 at 1:55 pmI think Dove has done a brilliant thing with their beauty campaign. I'm not foolish and I do realize that was created to sell product, but regardless, the message is important! Take a moment to watch http://www.newnownext.com/brilliant-dove-experiment-uses-sketch-artist-to-change-the-way-you-see-yourself/04/2013/
This video by dove can also be applied to how we as pole dancers perceive ourselves and our dance. We belittle our skills, we forget to focus on what we CAN do! Often we look at others, thinking "if only I could invert or be flexible like so and so, then I'd be a real pole dancer" or "Then I'd be happy". Happiness and fulfillment come from within, It comes from how we see the world and treat ourselves. Until we love ourselves and acknowledge our accomplishments true happiness stays hidden.
How we see ourselves physically and as dancers is often NOT as other see us.
So, I have a challenge….I would like you all to write on this thread 3 things you like about your physical appearance AND 3 thing you're proud of that relate to your pole dancing. Write more if you like. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

1. I love my legs
2. I love my eyebrows

I saw this on FB this morning and it brought tears to my eyes. It should hit home with just about every person on earth! This is a challenge!!
1) I love my boobies!
2) I love my hips
3) I love my calves
1) I am proud that I had the guts to start pole dancing at age 47
2) I am proud of how graceful and long my legs look when I pole
3) I am proud that I can do a backbend and the splits again after 30 years
4) I am amazed and proud of how my body has changed, overall since I started to pole

2. I love the definition in my shoulders, and that is all thanks to pole!
3. I love my overall hourglass shape.
Pole:
1. I can hold certain tricks for a long time.
2. I have a lot of freedom in my hips, which makes it easy to move my booty!
3. I have pretty good flow when I freestyle.
And to go along with PoleFitMom… I think my butt looks better in yoga pants than naked! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Well, I have to say, I enjoyed that video immensely. It has a lot more substance to it than just putting average women in white cotton panties to shock people because they’re not stereotypical runway models. That was a very interesting video that I was able to identify w/, thank you for sharing!
Okay, onto the challenge…
Physical:
1.) I love my eyes.
2.) I have long legs.
3.) I get these lines when my abs show, hard to describe, but I like the way they look.Pole Pride
1.) I love how I express my emotions and music when I dance.
2.) I love when my pole and I become almost like one entity.
3.) I love how I sometimes can twist an ungraceful move into something that looks intentional.Idk, I tried. lol

I love the idea for this challenge so much, that this is my first post after lurking for about a month here 🙂
In no particular order:
1. I love that people often guess that my age is at least 10 years younger than I am.
2. I love my legs
3. I love my butt
1. I'm proud that I'm learning so quickly. (Having previous dance experience and upper body strength from hauling around a +30lb kid helps).
2. I'm proud that I'm 40 and yet probably fitter than I have ever been before.
3. I love that my interest to improve my pole skills has the side effect of motivating me to work out regularly, including taking up swimming lessons!
4. I'm proud that I have an awesome husband who supports me in everything I do, and I'm happy to be part of a community where people show so much support for each other.
5. I love that I can bring both my musical and dance background to pole dance.
-
1. I love my breast. Lol
2. I love my thighs.
3. I love my feet.Pole:
Harder. Lol
1. I love how poling has made me more confident.
2. I love how poling is bringing me and my boys closer.
3. I love that poling is challenging me and I am not losing interest. 🙂 -
Physical:
1. Strong shoulders
2. Defined waist
3. Toned calves
Aerial related (silks, hope it still counts):
1. Strong enough to lift my own self (used to be one of those girls who thought upper body strength was only for boys)
2. Discipline to work out and practice on a regular basis
3. Sheer joy at what my body is capable of; what I am capable of. 😀

I love my eyes
I love my legs
I love my butt lol
I love that I'm stronger, healthier, and at the lowest weight of my adult life
I love that I can actually support my body in interesting and beautiful ways
I LOVE that I love flipping up side down, spinning around, climbing up high, and jumping.
I also love how awesome my pointed toes are. I have been proud of that since my ballet teacher used me as an example of a proper point when I was little lol.

1. I have frickin sexy calves
2. My stomach is starting to look strong
3. I have gorgeous eyes.
Pole:
1. I have those hair whips DOWN
-
woosp got cut off.
2. I love that my body gets stronger every day
3. I love that pole has changed me from being shy in a one-peice on the beach to a sexy and confident booty short performer 🙂

Physical (found this one quite difficult to write!)
1. I like my big blue eyes
2. I like my long legs
3. I like my slim figurePole-related things I’m proud of
1. That I’m finally strong enough to lift and hold my body weight in climbs, spins, poses etc after starting out so weak
2. That I managed to work up the strength and courage to get myself upside down when I never thought I would
3. That I forced myself to push past the pain when learning new moves
4. That I didn’t give up when I thought I was hopeless. 🙂 -
1. I like how my abs are usually visible.
2. I like how expressive my face is, even when I don't want it to be.
3. I like that I can split in most directions without excessive effort.
and then…
1. I like my uniqueness as a pole dancer. I don't think I pole dance like anyone else, on or off the competitive circuit.
2. I like how flexibility enables me to create unusual shapes.
3. I like my ability to see potential for a combo and develop it into practicum.
-
1. I love, love, love being a redhead, and all that comes with it – the pale skin, the freckles, the blue eyes, and oodles of compliments from total strangers. Especially older people. I like being a rarity!
2. I have a body like a Botticelli painting. While I'm not thrilled to be 'overweight', I prefer being curvy to being scrawny. (This is the one I have to remind myself of most often. It's really easy to hate my body when I'm around skinny-mini pole dancers all the time).
3. I dislike shaving and let myself get pretty damn fuzzy by modern American standards before I finally cave in and shave, and I'm secretly weirdly proud of that.
About my dancing:
1. I have a kickass taste in music. This has to be #1 because it drives my interest in pole dance. I wouldn't do it without the music.
2. I am constantly amazed at the progress I've made, both in progressing through the hierarchy of moves, and in overall body strength/flexibility/mobility.
3. I have great flow.
