Wow, Red, that was super, duper helpful! Can I hump your leg? Woops! Did I say that? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif
Thank you for the pictures and the explanations, it was very enlightening! I think I’ll be saving the whole post for future reference! I’ve, personally, seen mostly the cup grip when I watch others do it, but I could also see the Veena, or Flip grip being used effectively. I’ll try them from the floor and see if any of them work for me! It’ll be another strength thing for me to practice, along with my pull-ups! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

The veena grip is similar to the flip grip Red is showing. But your top arm isn’t bent in the Veena….its straight. The beginning half of the SM will feel a bit more difficult but one your at the top it give you great control of the move https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I was taught (via the internet and what not ) to do the double cupped gri but it just never clicked for me. I first got my shoulder mount in the Princess grip. I wasnt taught that way (maybe because nobody ever taught me personally LOL) but I tried it and it just worked and was comfy for me. Granted this was after months of SM prances. LOL. But after getting comfy in the Princess I was able to get the cupped. For me….I was able to use my arms and back more in princess and I think that’s why I was able to get it that way. I think I struggled more with cupped because I don’t have the abs for it. I’m working on that though…

Are there any photos somewhere that displays the variety of grips?

Karol has photos earlier in this thread (aka on this page!) and there are some on WikiPole here: http://www.triagedesign.co.uk/wikipole/index.php5?title=Shoulder_Mount. Veena has a photo of Veena Grip on her profile with her in a SM super invert (which she should get put onto WikiPole *hint* https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif … and then there’s Elbow Grip, which I’ve just stumbled on: https://www.studioveena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4318
