Hey girls, I just wanted to see do any of you have anything that severely holds you back on the pole? For example, sorry to be so disgusting lol but I am generally a sweaty Betty πŸ™ so you can imagine what it’s like when I pole. I can literally do my moves for 20 mins then I’m a sweaty mess and can’t do anything I’m slipping off the pole. It’s the most frustrating thing I think iv ever came across especially now I’m obsessed with pole. I’m always so excited to get on the pole but after the 20 mins I just can’t do anything. Like yesterday, tried yogini after poling 20 mins and I just slid the whole way down the pole every time I got in to yogini. You guys have any tricks or tips for something like this? I once seen a girl on a different website that said she uses baby powder(talc) , but to me I think I’d slip just the same with that? Grrrrrr it’s the only thing that holds me back! Other than that I’m strong on the pole, iv learned to stay on tho for most moves when I’m a sweaty mess but somethin like yogini is impossible. When I first started poling this was what made me take a break for 5 months because it was getting to me so much!! Any tips or feedback would be great if you have any lol

Korrine on here is also a sweaty beast (her words). Fans and covering the pole in dry hands is typically what she does. BTW…..chrome seems to be one of the worst finishes if you are sweaty.

Also just a side note….most deodorants will leave a residue when you are working near your armpits.

Yes and unfortunately I have a chrome finish xpert. I’m definitely going to indulge in a new pole maybe for Xmas, a brass one. Thanks for tips πŸ™‚

i am so sweaty, even brass finishes make no difference. if you’re wet, it doesn’t matter what metal you use, you will slip. i use lots of dry hands, tite grip, and i sometimes resort to pole gloves

I know katana it’s really doing my head in, I’m so strong on the pole but it means nothing when your sweatiness is holding you back! Have you ever entered any competitions? I’m de to enter one in just over a month and I’m terrified ill blow it because of this. And to be honest, even when I use gloves my hands sweat inside the gloves, so the gloves are sticking to the pole but my hands inside are slipping everywhere! I’ve never actually covered the pole in grip so ill try that too.

yes, i have competed- recently actually. pole sport organization comps allow gloves. i sweat through gloves in approx 20 minutes, so i just put a fresh pair on just before showtime. ( i have 8 pairs of gloves lol)

I am also a sweaty mess on the pole and use Chrome. Fans help, gloves can be useful too. The weather can make it or break it for me as well. If it’s humid I’m doomed.
For me, it has come down to acceptance at least in part. I know that I am not going to be able to perform every trick any day I want. Some days are really good others are really bad. I try to remember that the bad days are not my fault, that I don’t really suck as bad as it may seem, and that overall they even make me a better poler for having pushed through doing what I could manage. Even if it wasn’t much. (I have days where I can’t do a simple chair spin, and reverse grab is always hit or miss due to sweaty hands. ) Floorwork is always a fun option, or I use the practice time to have an extended stretching session instead.
Be creative and try to find something positive in it.

Thanks heaps for that fresh perspective, Dust Bunny!
This has also been something that I think I will forever struggle with – having very sweaty hands and feet in pole. Driclor has helped to some extent.
I think the acceptance thing is a huge one for some of us.

Thanks for offering all your input as I feel I can relate to you on so many levels!

I am a super sweater as well. My hands and feet make it impossible to do some moves, and there is a certain point where I get too sweaty to stick to anything.

I know what you mean dust bunny, us sweaters have to pace ourselves and stop focusing on it holding us back but throw ourselves in to floor work etc. which is something I definitely need to do. I’m more of a poker who is in to it for the moves and combos.. Dancing? I’m laughable lol thanks girls for all your feedback I really thought in as the only one who was this bad, in the studio I go to my instructor said I’m the biggest sweater she’s ever seen but she pointed out that even though I sweat so much iv learned to stay on the pole to a certain extent which she says is brilliant. Just so happy there are others like me lol
