Posted by Lyme Lyte on May 19, 2013 at 12:11 pmI hate shaving my legs period. But with summer, need to start on a regular basis…… so looking for a good electric razor. Any suggestions?

I use an epliator. It grows back slower and finer. It is painful and takes a while to epilate them both the first few times but after a while I find the mild pain soothing. I do it after a bath or shower and even do my underarms. Not so brave to do the lady parts but my bikini area is much happier, less infllamed, etc.

Omg…I just cring at the thought. I tried one many years ago and couldn’t even begin to bear the pain. BUT I may just have to get used to it.

I'm with Lyme on this one…I have always been curious about epilators but have yet to bite the bullet. I bet it's better after a hot bath.

In the case with pole and needing to shave so much and razor burn…I just had to bite through the pain. And I thought I would just get used to it and after a while thought I never would… Now I can say I am used to it. It's been a year and a half. I do shave sometimes but not often. ;).

I agree with Jelli. I've been using an epilator for 6 years now and I love it! I only have to epilate every 10-14 days and no longer have to deal with razor burn or stubble. It's painful initially but you get used to it over time – it's no longer painful for me. I have the emjoi optima and I've been using it since I first starting epilating. I've never had it break on me nor have I ever needed to replace any parts like traditional electric razors. It's a little pricey but a great investment. I bought mine at Sharper Image but they have it cheaper on amazon.

And just to say the brand I use… it is a phillips, that is not rechargeable. I chose this becuase I wanted to make sure that I always have FULL power, 😉 The chord on it is very long.

Thanks ladies…..maybe have to look at an epi. I was last year and chickened out about the pain. I will continue to investigate my options! All I know is I want something where I can do my legs while watching TV! 🙂

well, it's kinds loud…id wear headphones and listen to music. plus you'd get the hair all over… I like to sit over a towel. It's kinda fascinating to watch, too, if that doesn't sound too creepy, haha. I don't have to watch what I'm doing so much anymore but in the beginning I found it to take my undivided attention, and I liked to listen to music on my headphones and block out the world. You also should pull the skin with the opposite hand, to make it tight and the hair stand up more. And, um, don't let it get too long before you epilate…esp in the beginning when the hair is more coarse.

Just wanted to chime in and say don't feel bad Lyme, I bought an Emjoi brand epi many years ago and used it one and a half times and never touched it again, lol. It was the most painful 90 bucks I ever spent. I think its still shiny and new looking, collecting dust in a storage box somewhere.

I still shower shave, although over the years my leg hairs have gotten so sparse I can go for quite some time before they get scary looking. I'm looking for a solution though too, mostly for the bikini area, which cannot take frequent shaving without my skin getting very angry. I've been considering going to get waxed but the expense is prohibitive and doing it myself is not going to happen. So shaving it is..

that was the main reason I started epilating–my bikini area! It became so inflamed, and then sweat and then had to shave again… I get as close as I can with the epi and suck it up. I have not had problems since 😉 I will go for my first Brazilian asap, though! haha

I swear by waxing my bikini area and just shaving my legs. I tried an epilator a few times. the pain didn't bother me cuz I already wax! but every time i would use the epilator, the hair on my legs would become ingrown when it started growing back. i constantly had to exfoliate my legs. and this was before i ever started pole dancing. since pole dancing and shaving my legs, i still have to exfoliate because i assume all the rubbing against my skin, causes the hair to become ingrown. i used to go to a salon to get waxed, but i do it myself now to save money.

How do you wax yourself??!!! I got a Brazilian a month ago and I thought she was ripping everything off down there lol. I liked how I didn't have any regrowth for like 3 weeks but my goodness that pain was almost unbearable.
