Body position in cartwheel vs split grip ayesha
So here’s a question (I haven’t seen it covered before so please excuse me if it has been) that I am currently struggling with in my overanalysing pole brain: should your body position in your split grip ayesha be exactly the same as it is in the ayesha you cartwheel into? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
The reason I ask is that I have convinced myself that I *should* be able to nail the split grip ayesha from an invert. I have recently managed to get the cartwheel into ayesha legs and hold it (not all the time but enough), I have long been able to do the butterfly and extended butterfly, I can do forearm grip caterpillars and ayesha (although, to be fair, I stay quite close to the pole in this one rather than having my hips further away) so theoretically I should have the strength to do the split grip ayesha. However, every time I try, I can’t quite figure out where my butt is going and the legs that are so confident in swinging up into the cartwheel suddenly get shy and don’t want to stray far from the pole so it just turns into jacknife after jacknife instead of the ayesha I long for. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
I’ve watched prep videos where people suggest kinda froggy-ing your legs down but I can’t really make that work either. I look at how far away from the pole I’m pulling in the cartwheel mount and I can’t imagine getting into that position from an invert and it’s very VERY frustrating! When I try the split grip, as I would for doing a butterfly, it just doesn’t quite feel like it does when I’ve cartwheeled it (I do do them on opposite sides but it’s more than that) but my question is, should it feel exactly the same? This may seem like a dumb question but I’m trying to figure out exactly what I should be aiming for to get the darn move. Thanks in advance (and sorry about the long post for a short question – I always have to detail background…at length!) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
