OK I’ve seen tons of you tube videos of doing a body wave while on the pole. I think I’ve seen some on here too. How do you go about doing it? I can climb and pole sit/stand for days, but I think I lack the ablility to incoporate the body wave while on the pole? Veena…possibly a new lesson?

hanging off or gripping with knees?

The pole sit tyope version involves holding onto the pole just above the knees, just behind the bones.
grip like crazy there and it is muchh easier.

I too would like to know how to do the body wave where your legs are dangling down. I can hold on for a bit – but then I tip/lean to one side and no matter how tight I hold, I end up dropping off. How do you stay stable in one place? Is it abs? Shoulders?

I’ve seen both moves with your knees on the pole and your legs completely off the pole. I am more interested right now with legs still on the pole as I can assure you my upper body strength and pole experience is still being worked on!

If I do it with my legs ON the pole I have 2 kinds.

The body roll on the pole – with legs wrapped on the pole like they would be for a climb.
For this one – do a pole climb – but do not press your stomach to the pole once you get up. Keep your bum away. Now squeeze your knees, thighs etc tight and do a body roll (put your collarbone on the pole, then your boobs, then tip your head back and put your stomach on, and then go back to starting position with your bum out.) You obviously can’t undulate as much as you can if you do a body roll standing on the floor. But it still looks cool. If you let your legs slip a bit, that’s okay too coz you can body roll down the pole, basically — til you get back to standing.

The body roll on the pole – while sitting, gripping with thighs, legs out in front.
This is just a pole sit nd you do a body roll with your torso – but you’ll notice that as you do the roll/wave, your hips move which will make your legs move. This is good! Let your legs particpate in the sort of floaty movement. I think it looks a bit like a mermaid when done this way. All the grip is in your thighs for this one.

Anyone got advice for the legs OFF version? Like I said, my whole body drifts/rotates to one side, until it pulls me off the pole totally. Is this my abs? shoulders? lats?

Air Bodywave is a very challenging move because it requires a strong split grip which is one of the harder grips to use. You can either do it with the top arm straight in which case you need to focus on using the lats of the top arm to bear your weight or you can do it with the top arm bent at 90 degrees which means you rely mostly on your bicep to bear your weight. You want to practice this grip putting as little pressure on the bottom arm as possible so start with a very wide grip. As your top arm gets stronger (either lats or bicep or both!) you will be able to push your body away from the pole with the bottom arm without that arm bearing much of your weight. You want to practice this grip and get very strong before attempting bodywave. See Veena’s lessons for some great strengthening excercises https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
