  • Bowed elbows, does anyone have this

I have had this since I was born, so I was wondering when I get strong enough to do tricks, if my elbows could be a problem for me to do a lot of the tricks/poses, I never had a problem with any exercise program cause of it either so I hope it won’t be a problem with pole. I think I will have to do a little more preparation on pole. Any suggestions will help, thanks, oh I kinda didn’t want to post this but it might help me out, there might be someone out there that has the same thing.

Do you mean hyperextended elbows? I have those. You shouldn’t have a problem, but be very conscious of not fully extending them because that could put too much stress on your joint. For example, let’s say you’re on the floor in a plank position. Hyperextended elbows will naturally face forward. Instead, make sure to turn them in.

I don’t have that issue but would this help?

I used to struggle with shoulder range of motion and by doing a similar process for my shoulders, I have noticed improvement.

It might help, I could try it but I was born with my arms like this, it might not work on me since it wasn’t an injury or surgery etc.

One of my students has this same issue. I’m certain she will actually be quite excited to see she isn’t alone. I’ll send her the link to this, as she may have some words of wisdom for you.
In terms of your question as to whether it will be an issue later, yes unfortunately it can be. The extension required with your arms, to
reach your foot can be a challenge in certain moves later on. It doesn’t mean that you can’t pole, because you definitely still can. There just may be times when you’ll need to get creative, and modify :).
