I think Chemmie nailed it! Someone commented on the brass xpole looking brushed and the stainless steel x pole is also a brushed finish instead of a polished finish. That has to be the issue. We had a whole thread about the stainless steel pole being too slick a little while ago:

A video was even posted in that thread that showed that her boots wouldn't even stick to the pole. It was so bizarre.

The main reason the girls are getting frustrated is because of the different things they are being told. I know I was told that the poles were solid brass, with the erason that they wanted to avoid the nickle allergy problem. If it is rue that it is a brass coating that could wear off with time, then it is reasonable for anyone with allergies to worry about the coating rubbing off (if there is a coating) or that the pole will fail if it is a solid brass pole. These are all relevent concerns, and it is important for the customer service reps to know the answers to these questions. Unfortunately it does not appear that there is a consistent answer yet.

Ahhh…so this may sound stupid, but can we get brass x-poles in the US yet? I googled it and only found TG and Chorme…

Also, how long does it take for the TG finish to wear off? I really thought I wanted an X-pole but now I'm all sorts of confused.

I think there is a world of difference between XPole US customer service and pretty much every where else.  I know that there have been quite a few issues with XPole UK and it appears that the Australian support staff have not all been trained properly.

Does anyone know if brass should become a much lighter color after using a brass cleaner on it?? I tested "Brasso" on the very top of my brass xpole (where I never grip) and it made it go from the normal deep goldy bronzed color to a light gold color! It made me assume I was taking the brass coating off?

Brass oxidizes and becomes dark (think of how silver tarnishes…same thing).  It will be a much lighter gold color when squeeky clean and an almost bronzish color when tarnished.

This is a really good link on home made brass cleaners and how to care for it.  Did not know that wiping brass down with ammonia will keep it shiny.

Usually brass is covered in a thin laquer which keeps it nice and shiny but I have even had stuff tarnish under the laquer (which is then a real pain to clean).  This is one of the things with brass, the center where it gets used a lot will be one color and the top and bottom will be another.  It is just the nature of the beast but it is also what gives it its grippiness.

Be careful what other cleaners you are using as well as ammonia can damage brass and some glass cleaners have ammonia in them.

Empy, Brasso is 5% ammonia in Australia and 5-10% in the US.  I am not entirely sure how brass rod is made but I imagine it is a "hot" process.  Ammonia and "cold" processes (think metal stamping) is where ammonia and brass do not mix well.  The stamping process will cause stress fractures that ammonia will continue to make more brittle until cracks are formed.

Whoops, thanks Empy! So maybe just vinger mixed with water? or straight white vinegar in a spray bottle? *hides glass cleaner*
